802737 2009-08-20 04:29:00 Hi,
Running Vista OS and the dvd player on my laptop, has suddenly stopped working, actually haven't used it for a few weeks. When I put a disc in,no matter what type,be it a dvd or cd,all I get is the message...insert a disc.
I go to dvd properties and it tells me it is working properly.I did a driver update, but has the latest drivers. What I did notice,is the program I have called CyberLink DVD,has expired, could this have any thing to do with the problem. If so,what others are there available.

802738 2009-08-20 04:33:00 PowerDVD has nothing to do with it.
If it no longer reads anything then its stuffed.

802740 2009-08-20 04:59:00 so would it be just a matter of getting another that fits,or does it have to be soecific to the laptop,( which is an Acer), or am I better off with a usb one.

802741 2009-08-20 05:39:00 It will be standard. You can grab one with a warranty off Trademe if you want, they are dead easy to install if you know your way around a notebook. The hardest bit is normally changing the faceplate.

802742 2009-08-20 06:04:00 Thanks wratterus,

I'll be taking it out tonight to get the part/model number, then hike on over to trade me to see whats on offer.
More nuisance value than anything else, just when I need it for something important...bugger

802743 2009-08-20 07:44:00 Try this first:
support.microsoft.com

Your symptoms don't sound like the usual symptoms for the above issue, but try it anyways..
