802699 2009-08-20 00:52:00 I have a customer with a cash register system run through a computer.
We want to simply image the hard drive so if the original hard drive fails it's just a matter of switching cables and the system is up an running.

Is there a simple program available to do that?

Could I get some suggestions of how to proceed from here.

Thank you.

802700 2009-08-20 00:57:00 I like Acronis True Image, but there may be better/cheaper apps out now? nofam (9009)
802701 2009-08-20 01:23:00 If its a one off then(all free):

Macrium Reflect(easiest to use)
SelfImage
Clonezilla

If you need incrementals or differential backups regularly, then I recommend Ghost or Acronis.

DriveImageXML if you need it to be free

802703 2009-08-20 03:20:00 Possibly I used the wrong word.

What I want to do is copy the original hard drive to another backup.
The programs suggested created images and these would then need to be re-installed.

I want to simply copy the hard drive so if the original hard drive fails it's just a matter of switching cables and the system is up an running.

Opps -- looks like Acronis True Image has a "clone" mode -- giving that a try now.

802705 2009-08-20 07:46:00 You could do the same with DriveIImageXML:) Blam (54)

802707 2009-08-20 09:13:00 The latest Parted Magic has a program on it to image a drive. You can download the cd image and then burn to cd. It is a very useful disk now. mikebartnz (21)
