Software which takes about 10 minutes to bypass (or as long is it takes to find the "unlock" on Google)

when a phone is locked to a specific network. As the two networks in NZ are not compatible with each other at the moment this hasn't been a issue in NZ.
But will be in the future

What's locking the iPhone? Firmware but as Apple has discovered, it is a fairly pointless exercise since about 2/3rds of customers will unlock their phones from the assigned carrier within minutes of purchasing it.

668502 2008-05-12 09:39:00 Aren't half the current telecom phones locked anyway, I know you have to buy a phone to use with telecom, but with vodaphone, all you need is your sim card! SolMiester (139)
668503 2008-05-12 09:52:00 Yes they are. Also Telecom was on the CDMA network which is being phased out and their customers are moving up to and over to 3G. Vodafone is/was on the GSM which is global but now both are moving up to 3G and eventually 4G in another 18 months to 2 years. vitalstatistix (9182)
