667989 2008-05-10 12:30:00 They've got a first term MP leading their opposition to Labour - this is the National Party, one of the oldest names in NZ politics - and they've got a first termer as their leader. ***.

So what?

667990 2008-05-10 13:10:00 I am unsure I would vote for National.

I am more likely to vote for Labour or the Greens then National,

As I don’t trust National after what they did in the past (and with putting NZ internet back a number of years).

667992 2008-05-10 13:26:00 Why is it that just because people don't like the ruling party, they then decide "Lets all vote for the other major party" knowing full well that things aren't going to get any better

C'mon people, there are other parties out there... rock the boat and actually vote for one of them
Hell, they've got just as many policies as Keys so you aren't really going to lose anything

But no... we will sit back and vote for the other major party; and then ***** and moan at them

...coz thats what us [too scared to take a chance] conservative kiwis do

Very very true, but try telling that to all of NZ! or else i would say Act, but you may as well make your vote count... One vote to a minor party (Greens, Act) aint going to stop one of the major partys getting in....

Your talking about 0-5% for minor and 30-50% for major, there is quite a gap and quite a few votes between. :(

667994 2008-05-10 14:20:00 Oppositions don't win elections, government's lose them, when they p*ss off sufficient numbers of voters to get thrown out.
Unfortunately the NZ system of MMP, with its opportunistic minor parties upsets this normal order of politics by it needing the government to p*ss off a far greater proportion of the electorate to get thrown out.
Perhaps yesterdays' men may just become tomorrow's men by default.

Name a worthwhile other party that could make a difference. I'm not wasting my vote on them.

So what? You'll find out soon enough what inexperience in politics can wreak. If John Key doesn't go pear shaped in the election campaign (and I'm predicting some doozies) he certainly will when he is suddenly leading the Cabinet and the knives start geting sharpened.

667997 2008-05-10 21:31:00 Give the country a year to 18 months under National and then look on this forum to see the same whingers saying the very same things here about National that they are now saying about Labour and this coalition.

Yes.
I personally think John Key is not to be trusted. That could apply to all politicians though.

The economy is a result of losing manufacturing, you can't keep on selling nothing but sheep, milk and trees.

But that also applies to a lot of places.

It will suck everywhere except China.

Your talking about 0-5% for minor and 30-50% for major, there is quite a gap and quite a few votes between. :(But see the weird thing about democratic elections is that if enough people decide its time for a change, then you get this thing called an upset win. Now if both major parties have annoyed enough people, and they decide lets vote for [lets say for example] ACT; then ACT will get in or become a major party, and hopefully make the 2 formerly major parties sit up and think "well hell, we better pull our socks up and start listening". In an ideal world...

Name a worthwhile other party that could make a difference. I'm not wasting my vote on them.Name a major party that listens to the people...

For the record, I am one of the disgruntled who is sick of the useless complaining and will be seriously looking at casting my vote to a minor party
