667921 2008-05-10 05:59:00 First of all, a disclaimer. I am quite happy with Orcon over all, and their ADSL speed within NZ is fine, better than most.

However, I am on their max/max plan and only care about connecting to two US based servers, Ventrilo and SoE.

Since about Feb, I have had problems getting any kind of stable connection. In the last week or so, I have been throwing my money away basically. Ventrilo cannot maintain a connection for more than a few mins at a time, and even then I have up to 30 seconds lag = useless.

This week I have struggled to get a connection to the SoE patcher, and once I do get connected, updates stop and it times out.

I ran a tracert and the problem begins (and ends) with Orcons supplier, aisanet. Packets appear to run into digital quicksand the instant this crowd become involved.

Friends on (other) isps are maintaining stable Ventrilo connections from the same city (chch). I know Orcon has acknowledged (vaguely) that a problem exists, but frankly they have to do much better. If their current supplier can't provide a fast and stable connection to USA, then they need to find a supplier who can.

Send them any tracerts and try to talk to someone a bit higher than the normal customer 'help'

667923 2008-05-10 06:20:00 I did send them tracert's. They very helpfully pointed out that it appeared to be an aisanet issue. Gee...thanks Orcon.

Incidentally, my firmware is up to date and my speeds are fine in all other applications, so hardware is unlikely to be the issue.

A phone call to Orcons help desk today resulted in a confirmation that US connections were currently borked, but they had no clue when I could expect progress. Nice.

667924 2008-05-10 07:30:00 Moan moan moan ...

I am also with Orcon and have noticed the same problem. I called them and they confirmed there is a problem that there engineers are in the process of trying to fix

In the meantime, theres not a damn thing one can do but wait patiently.
Or change.

But quit whinging

667925 2008-05-10 07:41:00 Since about Feb?

hells bells, Thats worth a whinge, hell, Its worth a firebomb.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, If they can't supply what they are advertising they should stop selling it, and provided refunds, No matter who is at fault. It sure as hell isn't the customers fault yet they get to pay for it....and wait.

667926 2008-05-10 08:17:00 Has only been an issue here for a week and a half max maybe

If the problem was just asianet, then iirc Slingshot are supplied by them also. Yet no bitchy Slingshot customers here are there?

667927 2008-05-10 08:22:00 Thank you for your constructive reply Myth. I look forward to assisting you with any future problems you may have.

My concern is a valid one. If you choose to accept Orcons current level of service silently, that is of course your prerogative. I have concerns because they cannot supply what I am paying for and appear to have no real information on when a fix can be expected.

Troll? Where? ^^ :sleep

Slingshot customers rejoice with wild celebrations if they can get a service good enough to allow minutes of basic surfing. The poor deluded fools.

667929 2008-05-10 08:25:00 Asianet was specifically fingered as the problem in a phone call to Orcon today. It is also confirmed by a tracert.

You may want to check these things before posting. Anyway, this is not constructive, I'll leave it at that. Knock yourself out (please).

I don't think there are too many slingshot people on here. I used to be with them, and if that was the only problem I had, I wouldn't have minded.
