803843 2009-08-24 09:09:00 I have recently built up a new computer and decided that I would try out the new Windows 7 RC 64 bit version. To date all has generally gone well and the new OS certainly is full of features and help. Firefox 3.5 runs very well and tome is easier than Internet Explorer 8, which seems a bit overcrowded.
The big problem came when I found that their is no longer any email program attatched. On line views seemed to indicate that the Windows Live Essentials series included Windows Live Mail. I installed the set of programs and tried Live Mail. It does set up and run OK, except that UAC comes in everytime I click to activate the mail, this is a bummer. Its the only program that UAC impedes. I have reviewed the default program settings, also the Window customize settings and as far as I can see all settings seem ok. I dont doubt that I have missed something, however Win7 is fairly informative and I still draw a blank. I have looked at Microsoft site for info, so far , I can only see that Live Mail, which had problems in Vista , may have a compatability issue in Win 7. Checks on compatability in my OS have not been definative.
I am sure others have used the same 64bit OS that I have.
I would really appreciate any help and advice. Thanks

803844 2009-08-24 09:27:00 Did you download Windows Live Essentials from http://download.live.com ?

How are you starting Windows Live Mail?

Cheers

803845 2009-08-24 10:09:00 Disable UAC. Blam (54)
803846 2009-08-24 11:00:00 Disable UAC.

Although this might fix the problem its a bit of a hammer vs walnut

Windows Live Messenger doesn't need admin rights to run

It would be better to troubleshoot why it is asking UAC for elevation

803847 2009-08-25 05:02:00 Thanks all, Yes I did download Live Essentials from M/S. Yes I have tried cutting out UAC, however on the flip side nothing else ever activates UAC. Also I do feel that dsabling UAC is a retrograde step especially in Windows 7 which is a better OS than Vista.
I am also trying Firefox 3.5 and CC Cleaner and Perfect Disc, all of which work great with no nags from UAC. Only Live Mail...............To date no solution

803848 2009-08-25 05:09:00 how are you starting Windows Live Mail?

If its from a shortcut icon, does that Shortcut have "Run this program as an administrator" checked under Privelege Level, in the Compatibility tab?

803849 2009-08-25 09:11:00 get rid of live mail.
D/L and instal Thunderbird. Problem fixed. But you can't import OE address book

803850 2009-08-25 09:27:00 I had a look at Windows Live Mail, (an updated OE, under the wrapping) but didn't like the GUI at all. The layout is vague, and the pastel tones weren't to my liking at all.

So, as jjjjj said, try Thunderbird in W7. A nice looking GUI, and you can import the OE address book, unless the limitation jjjjj mentioned is a peculiarity of 64 bit.
