| 803785 | 2009-08-24 05:45:00 | Hi, I just started my Vista Desktop PC yesterday and it does not detect my hard drive. And giving me the following message: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER I tried to connect another hard drive and it is detecting that hard drive. I tried to Boot from Vista CD and tried to Repair but it does not work because it does not detect any drive. I checked in the System and that hard drive could not seen in there as well. I brought it to PB Tech and that guy told me that the hard drive is failed and now it is not possible to recover the data. Please guide me, how can I recover my data. Thanks in advance. |

| 803789 | 2009-08-24 06:48:00 | Had a customers 4 1/2 yr old PC do the exact same thing two weeks ago. I rang a data Recovery specialist in Auck ---- $90.00 to look and see if the data could be read. -- Non refundable THEN anywhere from $900.00 - $2000.00 to recover the data, depending on the work required. Doing regular Backups is cheaper ;) Edited: She was kind of lucky, the backup system I put in place when I supplied the PC saved most of her items - she had made some changes and it had not backed up for the last 4 months,( she never checked the backups like I suggested) so she only lost 4 months, other wise it would have been 40 odd GB gone. IF she had of checked she may have lost nothing. |

| 803792 | 2009-08-24 11:03:00 | Can the BIOS see the drive? No? Don't muck around trying to fix it in Windows, sounds like you have a hardware problem Did you try the HDD in another machine? |

| 803794 | 2009-08-24 11:29:00 | Yeah so have I :p , BUT if the drive is stuffed as in this case it looks like it (read the original post), you would have to disassemble it, reconstruct the platters in another case, rearrange the write heads without damaging them, and with a good circuit board, and it may or may not work -- Unless you have the correct knowledge and tools its VERY easy to completely stuff a drive - sending it to the experts costs more $$ but at least they know what they are doing, and have the right equipment. |
