670605 2008-05-19 01:01:00 The pay is poor but you may opt not to be paid (the renumeration will be paid to your employer) but continue receiving your normal wages. Parking, petrol and public transport is paid.

You are paid, your employer may top this up to your normal pay. This is not universal.

670606 2008-05-19 01:07:00 I got a jury summonds the other day to attend for the week of 3rd of June. I felled out the reply and a request to be excused as this would of been my 5th call up in 15 years. I got a reply back saying that I was excused from attending and also excused from being on future jurys.

Do you also buy Lotto tickets? If so, what is your track record there?

670610 2008-05-19 04:00:00 I have one objection to Jury Service as constituted in NZ.
The Government is not prepared to recompense Jurors adequately for their time -
All this crap about doing your civic duty mouthed by people getting 6 figure salaries from the Tax payer.

If a Juror is say earning $50K per year, with say a $200K mortgage, then 2 weeks of Jury Service, which is not unusual, is going to cause this citizen, (and his family) doing his civic duty quite some financial pain, the employer is under no obligation to make up the shortfall- this is hardly just.

The Jurors compensation makes the adult minimum wage seem overly generous

670612 2008-05-19 06:23:00 Ive been asked 4 times and never gone, they arent willing to pay my loss of wages so they can take a jump off a cliff. rob_on_guitar (4196)
670613 2008-05-19 06:36:00 When you are judged by a jury just remember that they were not smart enough to get out of jury duty. (joking) zqwerty (97)

You're lucky they haven't caught you

What happens if I do not report to Court?
If you have not been excused from jury service, you can be fined up to $300 for not attending.
