669480 2008-05-15 06:54:00 I think you're exaggerating, I see that Ford haven't folded yet.
Ah! But they have started to implode!

The Mercury line is almost gone now...and that's one of the last nails in their coffin. What's next...Lincoln!?!

They divested (to hear them say it) themselves of "certain" Euro-boxes that didn't make them enough money..ahem!

They actually (when it is all told and out in the open) couldn't make money when they lost quality control of the vehicles and the recall rate was so high that the attorneys are gonna all retire before it all gets to court.

Here's a couple of links:

IBID: Its (Ford's) former UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover were sold to Tata Motors of India in March 2008, both companies having been through many changes of ownership in the recent past. Lincoln and Mercury are also Ford's aspirational brands in the USA, but not in the rest of the world. Ford also sold the brand names of Daimler (excluding certain rights sold to Germany's Daimler AG), Lanchester, and Rover to Tata Motors of India.

In 2007, Ford dropped to the third-ranked automaker in US sales after General Motors and Toyota, falling from the second-ranked automaker slot behind General Motors for the first time in the previous 56 years. Ford also dropped to the overall seventh-ranked American-based company in the 2007 Fortune 500 list, based on global revenues in 2006 of $160.1 billion down from $232.6 billion.

It's not that they build defective vehicles (they do) but that they are in total denial that there's anything wrong with their stuff.

669481 2008-05-15 07:02:00 We HAD them here for a very short time . . . but they all wound up at Home Depot for 1/3rd price . They just didn't have what the US market wanted in product, reliability or name .

And thats the very reason we here don't like the american stuff

669483 2008-05-17 08:22:00 Well that thread went astray.
Myth, thanks for showing some interest. Today I acquired an old washing machine that I took the circuit boards out of and fitted to mine. With a bit of jiggery pokey found a combination that worked and the machine is running.
Seems my main board was kaput.
Still got a fault that I think I had just before it stopped last time.
I cant get a cold wash (Cold rinse is ok) but the water when starting feels like it is half cold and half hot.
Now when I hit start somtimes nothing happens except the spin light comes on. Wondering if that is the lid switch.

When starting or the total fill? Smart Drives use some warm initially to dissolve the soap powder on a cold wash.
