670452 2008-05-18 13:33:00 I want to keep a list of my Cds and DVds especially now as the numbers are starting to get back up.

Do any of you use a program or anything for this or just a simple xl sheet?

Just xl is boring to look at after a while...

670453 2008-05-18 13:53:00 Libra (http://www.getlibra.com/) (not THAT kind) works pretty well as a media catalogue app. Especially good for cataloging physical CD and DVD collections as barcode scanning is supported, downloads cover art for a pretty looking shelf (all based on the Mac app Delicious Library).

Might be a bit flash for your purposes but still worth a look.

670454 2008-05-18 13:54:00 What kind of thing are you after? Something like Tellico should do a good job (I use it to manage my DVD collection). Alternatively you could go full-out and use a proper library cataloguing package - there is a very good opensource one floating around, although I can't remember the name. Erayd (23)

670456 2008-05-18 14:43:00 Cool a few options there! Basically Im listing all my cds etc, last time my collection got up to about 1500+

And I also want to be able to search through them easily.

670457 2008-05-18 18:28:00 What's so bad about Excel? Seems ideal to me if I had that many disks. Greg (193)

670459 2008-05-18 21:16:00 I keep all my CD/DVD's list of contents in text files.
My main contents are a list of backup files, photos, downloaded programs, patches etc etc.

Once I burn a CD/DVD I make a text file of it. "DVD Drive L" "Backup drive E"
Open a cmd window
L:
dir /s /o /b >e:/DVDs/MayBackup.txt
You can alter the flags to get the text file you need.

I have them all in the same folder and use Search & Replace to search for what I need at any time and it can search sub directories and wildcards

This method is simple and worked for me ever since my first 2x CD player in the early 1990's

I am still using my original version of Search & Replace I purchased for Windows 3.1 which has worked on all OS's I have used since.
