671216 2008-05-21 08:01:00 Ok, I've heard a few rumors and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this for me.

So apparently there are different HDMI versions, such as 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 etc (I don't actually know the numbers) and if you have differing versions on your components, they won't work together.

So for example if you had a 1.0 version cable and a 1.1 version TV and a 1.2 version DVD Player, then nothing would work.

All rumor or is there any substance to it?

Currently, there are no provisions for doing such an upgrade. Because of the new enhanced feature set, any such conversion would require hardware and firmware upgrades. If there are such conversions, it would come from the manufacturer. Please check with them directly."

Seems its true.

That wasn't my reading of the website - all your bits will work together.

671220 2008-05-24 07:31:00 Normal cables don't have different versions. Just connect it up and way you go :D dolby digital (5073)
671221 2008-05-24 07:49:00 I don't actually have HDMI anything, I just work in the A/V industry and have heard mumblings about this. Just nothing definitive. pine-o-cleen (2955)
671222 2008-05-24 08:58:00 Just out of curiosity, say you had a normal TV, non HD etc, but you had a HD dvd player, does the picture improve on your normal TV or do you have to get the HD TV to really see any difference? rob_on_guitar (4196)
671223 2008-05-24 11:09:00 You'd have to get an HD TV, wouldn't make a bar of difference because you couldn't use the HDMI connection. pine-o-cleen (2955)
671224 2008-05-24 11:27:00 True. Thanks. rob_on_guitar (4196)
