805009 2009-08-28 21:54:00 This notebook Compaq Presario V3000 requires a password to enter BIOS setup but we don't have the password as it was bought second hand.

Where to locate the button battery so that we can reset the CMOS? Is there any other easy way to go about? I've downloaded the CMOSPWD (www.cgsecurity.org) but it doesn't work.

Can someone help?

I did removed the 'RTC' battery for about 19 minutes with both the laptop battery and power cord out but it doesn't help to clear the password.

Is that the only battery or there's some others hidden somewhere?

Yes. I did.

I'm now trying to perform a fresh install of XP Home but the installation halted because it says that "Setup did not find any hard disk drive installed in your computer"

I thin it may be the SATA driver that's required. Where can I get the SATA driver? HP download site for this particular model has no such driver available.

805014 2009-08-29 03:52:00 Try these standard drivers (rapidshare.com)

Then slipstream it using something such as nlite.

What you may also need to do to clear the cmos is find the cmos jumper, with 3 pins and a jumper across 2 of them(i.e 1 and 2) move it to another position such as (2, 3) and then unplug all batteries then wait 30 minutes.

Tried a installl CD with SATA driver slipstreamed (not for HP notebooks) but still could not get it to recognise the HDD.

I really need to get into the CMOS to see what's wrong. I've unplugged both the RTC batter, laptop power battery and the Power cord from the adapter but still couldn't remove the password. Where can I find the reset pins for this model? I'm getting mad with this machine. :badpc::badpc:

805017 2009-08-29 05:27:00 You need to change the sata mode in the BIOS for the install.
Why can't you just ask the person you bought it from for the password?
