| 805022 | 2009-08-29 23:20:00 | Do you think that by flashing the BIOS update will reset the password? It might on a normal system but I don't know about laptop. Since they are designed to be more secure the password may not go away Did any other settings clear when you removed the BIOS battery? Maybe you just need to leave it longer.. overnight perhaps? |

Although if the procedure outlined in the manual doesn't work... 1.2Resetting the Computer If the computer you are servicing has an unknown password, follow these steps to clear the password. These steps also clearCMOS:1.Prepare the computer for disassembly (refer to Section 5.3, “Preparing the Computer for Disassembly,” for more information).2.Remove the real-time clock (RTC) battery (refer toSection 5.5, “RTC Battery,” for more information).3.Wait approximately 5 minutes.4.Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the computer.5.Connect AC power to the computer. Do not reinsert any batteries at this time.6.Turn on the computer. All passwords and all CMOS settings have been cleared. |

Did you give the BIOS update idea a try? Unfortunately, BIOS update can only be done in Windows environment, no DOS update utility available for this laptop. Will try to phone HP's tech support but according to forums comments, the only way is to send it to them to unlock it and can expect a huge amount of service charges. |
