804979	2009-08-28 10:57:00	Running a restore may get them back, but I doubt it. IF the address book has been corrupted, then it needs the correct recovery software. Here's the million dollar question ;) ---- How important is it to recover them in $ value ?? If its worth the while- then download the trial version of Address book recovery (www.oemailrecovery.com) - the trial will at least show you if you can recover the contacts. Their software is damn good - Wratterus can back me up on this. I used their OE recovery to recover customers lost emails - only last weekend I did a recovery of a persons email - they lost the lot - I managed to recover over 3000 emails. 804980	2009-08-28 11:20:00	Speedy -- Ive done them - except zango - oddly enough that was pointed out to me earlier today it was in an error report (from when I was trying to post a new thread in my discussion group - do u want to see that report??) I have no idea where it came from and neither can I find it anywhere. Its not in add/remove programs, and its not in windows explorer/programs. Where do I find it to remove it? Wainui -- I imagine what yer saying is the address book recovery you suggest is one of them that tells you whats wrong but you cant fix anything unless you pay? Whats it worth? Scratching my head now - cos theres no appearance of virus causing all this - the lappys probably about 4 yrs old.	Lovelee (6586)

804982	2009-08-28 11:58:00	No the program wont tell you whats wrong, or what even caused the problem. BUT just by crashing the PC can cause files to corrupt. What it will do, is if you install it and run it, then as long as its like the rest of their programs, it goes right though the complete recovery process - but wont actually recover anything till you pay. If it finds the corrupted Addresses, it will show all that can be recovered. Then if recovered, you put them back. As for cost -- $30 USA , which at todays exchange rate about $43 NZ. Thats why you use the trial - it will tell you if it can recover before you pay out. Referring back to the earlier post - a customer of mine - corrupted OE - lost thousands of Emails because he exceeded the capacity. One day he had several thousand in the inbox, next day only 7, as well as other folders he had created. I ran that OE recovery through ( I brought it several years ago) - it recovered every thing in the Inbox he had lost and had the option to recover the ones he had deleted - I had to stop it at 9000 mails and start again,as I had ticked "search for deleted" as well. I recovered every mail back to Feb 2006. this is a picture of the Recovered folders (www.imagef1.net.nz) -- My mistake in the last post - had the figures wrong :o Actual recovered mails show JUST the inbox. Speedy - Thursday night I turned off the lappy, using start/turn off .... when I got up the next morning it was still trying to turn off, desktop still showing, though I could see in the system tray that it had started - some of the programs had shut down. Though - the errors didnt begin until mid afternoon Friday. 804984	2009-08-28 22:06:00	Wainui - cheers for that - I downloaded it and ran it last night - when it got to the point of only giving me 10 of the email addys and to buy to get more - I clicked OK - and it did something then came back to the same window. So I guess that means I cant get them back. I have an inheritance coming in a couple of months - guess I have to wait till then, a new lappy for me and he is top of the wish list :) BUT - I know something else is happening down in the bowels of the old gal!! 804985	2009-08-28 23:27:00	Try it again, I just installed the trial on a workshop PC, NEVER had any of their products installed, and even though it said 10 as a trial it did recover 48 from the address book of a customers all in one shot.:confused: ( I have not brought it) Make a new folder( desktops good) Heres what to try -- Open the Program, cancel the wizard. Edited: In the location bar you may have to browse to the address book location if it doesn't auto detect. Along the top row of Icons - Recovery Source File / OK - Anything it finds will be listed - then assuming it locates files, next on the right, select Save Contacts / Save all records - Browse to the folder you want to save them (folder you created before) - click OK - it took less than a second to recover 48 I deleted from the address book, it was a quick flash - done. Go to that folder - there will be your saved items. persons Name.vcf ( about 1kb each one) Open OE, Open address book - position the address book so you can see both the saved files and address book - select all files in saved folder, drag and drop into address book - you may have to sit there clicking OK, OK, OK, OK OK for every entry.	wainuitech (129)
