| 805047 | 2009-08-29 01:34:00 | Is it critical which version of awdflash is used to update a bios. This site (support.octek.com.au) lists 8.63, 8.24c, 8.32 & 7.19d. Comments/guidelines please for future reference. Thanks. |

| 805048 | 2009-08-29 01:55:00 | Use the latest if its from the manufacturer's site. Dont use any version of awdflash, from any site Some BIOS updates will tell you it NEEDS a specific version | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

| 805050 | 2009-08-29 03:35:00 | People probably stuff things up by updating it with ASUS liveupdate. And it freezes. If you use this get the update first, then load it. DON'T download it from the program. Or put it on a flash drive then do it. Or with the latest updates, flash it from within the BIOS, after you put the update on a flash drive | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 805051 | 2009-08-29 05:55:00 | Thanks. Yep, am aware of the risks ....warnings are everywhere! That's why I'm a bit cautious I guess. Certainly there's a lot of scope for confusion within the flash utilities themselves. I've flashed before with later utilities and found it reasonably plain sailing. This one that came with the bios update was 8.22. When I run it, there was instant confusion. Perhaps the result of things being "lost in the translation". The issue I was hoping to fix was with ram. Memtest continually failed 2 x 256mb ddr400 pairs. The manual stated: "at the time of writing, PC2100 is the latest available". I went ahead with the bios update and have now completed a couple of passes with memtest! So I suppose that's success. This computer is for my PC's4kids project, where I fix older PC's and give away free to kids. This is a K7N420 Pro. Thanks for the help. |
