673577 2008-05-29 00:20:00 Interesting ( . stuff . co . nz/4564439a28 . html" target="_blank">www . stuff . co . nz), but I think Microsoft's comments about the UI being the biggest issue with Vista shows how out of touch they are with what people want?

My gripe with Vista is how over-engineered everything is - IMHO, it needs to be pared right back to something stable, light-weight, modular, and secure . . . . . hey wait, that sounds like Linux!!

Has anyone read Jon Honeyball's column in the new PC User? He outlines how the new Microsoft OS should be designed, and it sounds on the money to me

Yeah, lighter on the resources, secure, less of those annoying popups, cooler desktop effects like CompizFusion, stuff like that.

Unfortunately while a multi-point interaction interface like the Apple iPhone is cool, it gets very annoying. Aiming to control every OS like that is *not* a clever move. Having it an "optional" extra, perhaps, but stick to mouse & keyboard controls.. it works!

673579 2008-05-29 03:59:00 I see the multi touch being suited to a smart phone or laptop mouse pad but NOT to a computer screen . Too many messy fingers on the screen . I understand that Microsoft has a Mac like "Dock" planned for the Windows 7 task bar which is queried at the end of the video clip .

Amen! Bring back the custom install for advanced users so I don't have to install Movie maker, media player, IE, system restore, etc etc etc .

If nlite/vlite can strip the crud out of Windows, why can't Microsoft give us the option of not installing all these extras?

673581 2008-05-29 23:04:00 Touch screen is all very well in Windows 7 - then every one will get into the same old thing - need new hardware, wont run on my current system,MS should have this that and the other, why should I upgrade la de da de da - sound all to familiar ? wainuitech (129)
673582 2008-05-30 09:57:00 He's dreaming again as there is no way I would be wanting to reach forward to my screen instead of using the mouse in a comfortable position. Touch screens are fine in kiosks etc. mikebartnz (21)
673583 2008-05-30 21:11:00 I'd use a touchscreen. It'd be cool resizing your pictures with your fingers. :D pcuser42 (130)

Untill your fingers get tired and you eat a greasy burger.

Like someone mentioned, the iPhone/iPod Touch are cool but after a while if you stick to what works and what everyone likes, it works better. In this case, keyboard and mouse.

The two finger or multiple finger touch screen concept is better implemented in the current MacBook Pro/MacBook Air multi touch keypad which does currently allow you to resize and rotate images with two fingers(you can also zoom in on the iPhone screen using two fingers) - something that Monkey Boy Ballmer is obviously not aware of at this stage.
