673235 2008-05-28 00:49:00 SolMiester I just spent time with my Daughter over the years teaching her about security and various bad things that happen. Showed her what things can download when going on certain web sites. Also how to install and run software like AV, Anto spyware, Malware etc. I think over the years it has been time well spent, she seems to be very responsible on the Internet.

I find more problems under wife's account than daughter's account on XP.

LOL, I agree it is probably wiser to train the child than to just block content, however if is for one of the partners daughters who is 8, the problem is deeper in that the parents are quite ........ limited when it comes to computer technology as well, so no hope there I think...LOL

673237 2008-05-28 01:20:00 Education is the best long term answer, but I have also used / Suggested a program for some customers called IMlock (www.comvigo.com), there are 3 versions, each has different/more features, not free, but it is good, as if any sites for example are accessed, you can redirect to some place safe. There is a free trial also.

Its also very secure - meaning you cant simply go into add/remove programs and dump it, it requires a password, and selected keystrokes to change any settings - so you don't set it up when you have had one to many drinks and forget the settings - from memory it doesn't show in task manager either - but I could be mistaken on that - it was a while.

It's free, and is impossible to disable without a password.

673241 2008-05-28 20:31:00 My 13 year old has just been selected to attend the International Youth Advisory Council in England to help develop a UN charter for child and youth safety on the internet and cell phones. She is pretty stoked. wotz (335)
