| 806115 | 2009-09-01 11:29:00 | My JVC camcorder shoots in *mod format. If I copy these direct to a DVD they playback on a DVD player. But I can't play or edit them on my PC. The advice given when Googled is to just change the extention to mpg. Doesn't work. I have tried a program called AVS4YOU that converted MOD to AVI but it still wouldnt play in REAL player or Windows Media Player. Any ideas? David | DavidW (532) | ||

| 806121 | 2009-09-04 06:55:00 | Thanks KarameaDave The second of your websites pointed me in the right direction. VLC Media player will play the clips as mod or mpg files. SDCopy changes the extensins to MPG quickly. But I am restricted to using VLC media player as Real player, Windows Media player and Windows Movie Maker only recognise mpg and play the clips as a blank screen with audio. Anyone any ideas as to why this is happening? David | DavidW (532) | ||
| 806122 | 2009-09-04 07:08:00 | As I said in my first post, you will need to install a DVD decoder/codec on your system that Windows Media Player can use. It does not come with one by default, and the codecs that come with VLC can only be used by VLC. However there may be another reason. If you can get audio then it's possible the codec is OK but you have some problem with your video settings (in WMP itself or in windows/video drivers) To find out if you have compatible codecs or not, you can use this program: www.headbands.com Then you can open the file with it, and it will tell you what codecs are installed on your system to play the file, unless there are none and then it will give an error. |
