This would be my first post to the forum. I have to say I am a fan of PCworld, and enjoy the magazine immensely especially when it's about security (anti-viruses/malware/breakouts/detection/prevention) - it's my thing..

Anyway, what I would like some help with us is choosing a driver updater, and purchasing it. I do work experience for an smallish IT company in the local area, and since doing so have been confronted with one of the main issues of drivers. It's a problem that is always at the door step with reformatted PCs and it's extremely time consuming and annoying. I'll cut right to the chase.

Does anyone have or know for certain a legit-totally clean-malware free-spamfree-fruadfree and nonripoff driver updater?

I've tried everything. I thought Google was the God of the internet - which it is, but also gives all the bad stuff as well. I use WOT (Web of trust - found here http://www.mywot.com/ ) and all the driver sites it gives a big huge "DANGEROUS", and the comments coming from others and friends who have purchased or used all these updaters simply don't know where one is and... neither do I.

Uniblue - Fraud/Slow/Limited to very few drivers...
DriversHQ - Found to be useless/slow/limited to very driver detections...
Radarsync - Found to be slow/limited to very very few driver detections...
DriverMax - Installation & Driver installation time consuming and slow/downloads slow/does not provide correct driver for certain but displays multiple 'possible' drivers..

Will someone be the light of my little dark computer world right now and guide me to the best of the best driver updater? I really am surprised PC Tools doesn't have one, nor Auslogics... nor IOBit...

My list goes on.. I've tried to find others, and I'm incredibly worried to be wasting money or be caught in fraudulent purchases. Driver Updater position is still on the dark side of the internet. Surely they are not all fallen angels?

Thanks for future replies

Chris

806091 2009-09-01 10:38:00 Welcome to PressF1. :)

Between the manufacturer's site and www.driverguide.com you should rarely need to venture further, and never ever be conned into paying for drivers. I use WOT too, useful piece of kit. Haven't personally used driver magician but it looks good.

806092 2009-09-01 10:39:00 Excellent tool for backing up since we use the trial for that, but finding unknown drivers? Worth purchasing?

Not all the apples on the tree are rotten, but it's difficult to trust in this circumstance.

Do you have it yourself? What do you use Speedy?

806094 2009-09-01 10:46:00 I tried it once on the old PC, it was fine. Good thing about it it does what it says on the site, updates. And you can back up the installed drivers, and make an exe file. Then save them. Then if you decide to format, run it to reinstall whatever drivers. Without reinstalling the program again

Its not installed atm, most of the drivers for this pc anyway, are slipstreamed on the XP cd. And for the other PC's here, the install files (for whatever device) are on another partition on this system

The install file is currently on this tho

Sorry, you posted just before I did. Heh.

Absolutely! Good site that, but in a work environment it's costly to waste time on drivers when there is a tool to do the work for you. =D

Another one for Driver Magician? Guess I should purchase it, then give you guys a review.
