806083 2009-09-01 09:55:00 After a fresh install of XP Pro the startup stalls and asks for me to click on my user name (user) before continuing. I am the only one using the computer. This also happens when the computer goes to standby after being left idle for a while. The screen comes to life and I have to click on 'user' to get it going. Where do I go to disable this part of startup? David DavidW (532)
806084 2009-09-01 10:22:00 I'm on XP home, but it may be the same.

Go to control panel, click on user accounts, click on change the ways users log on or off, uncheck use the welcome screen.

806085 2009-09-01 10:36:00 I had this issue today at the workshop.

Windows Updates creates some ASP .net (to that degree) account under the control panel>user account. You need to delete that, and restart your machine.

That is one main cause of that on the XP machine at Service Pack 3.

I apologize I can't give further assistance because I havent' got a XP machine here at home, but I know for certain that is a cause. Bogan's guidance would also be another catalyst.

806086 2009-09-01 10:50:00 The ASP.net Account is created when you install .net framework - one of the windows updates that auto install.

Quite safe to delete it - Its only purpose is to allow you to run ASP.NET apps on your PC's local host web server, should you have a web server - for general home use its not required.

Now I've learned something tonight. Seems you've helped us both. =D
