805902 2009-09-01 01:51:00 Have 2 XP Home computers with McAfee Internet Security suite installed.

PC1: 192.168.2.9

PC2: 192.168.2.10

Default Gateway: 192.168.2.2

Workgroup: NETWORK1

No problem with Internet Access for both computers.

PC1 can 'see' PC2 but PC2 cannot 'see' PC1

Disabled McAfee's Firewall on both computers doesn't help.

Other than uninstalling McAfee completely, what other options/things I should look at in order to get the two computers to 'see' each other?

805903 2009-09-01 01:56:00 Sounds like the ips are wrong. Never seen a gateway with 192.168.2.x or ips with 192.168.2.x Its usually 192.168.1.x or 10.1.1.x. Find out what the valid ip range is, for the router. And what the ip is to login to the router Speedy Gonzales (78)

No - it's the first two octets (192.168.xxx.xxx) that specify it as a private IP.

But yeah, it is kinda strange to use 192.168.2.xxx unless you need to?

- Can PC2 ping PC1?
- Have you shared a drive/folder on PC1?

805905 2009-09-01 02:53:00 If the router is a Belkin - they have the IP of 192.168.2.XX

This had me stuffed the first time until I did an ipconfig to get the routers IP :D

Seen similar problems - uninstall the mcAfee from both PC's and see if they work OK. Simply disabling them doesn't work.

Last place I went to that had McAfee - similar problem - removed the software and all worked as it should.

Well, it's a pain. These 2 pcs have just renewed their subscription for a year!

805907 2009-09-01 05:14:00 Well, it's a pain. These 2 pcs have just renewed their subscription for a year! Maybe so, but if you have the Install files, and license keys - if you remove the software and every thing works OK then at least you'll know thats the problem.

If it still plays up without McAfee then you know its something else. then once fixed, reinstall the software.

I know I tried for ages to get the three PC's to talk and they wouldn't 2 x Xp and 1 Vista, all the settings were right - removed McAfee and they worked perfectly.

I agree with this 100%, seen it with McAfee and Nortons, even though they were 'turned off' they still were blocking access, being the system hogging whorey softwares that they are. Never mind that last bit though. Just remove it and see if the problem goes away.

I also had this problem with Avast home edition. Well, I didn't. The Telstraclear guy installing the cable modem did.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you are trying to say.

Sorry, that was more of a general comment that not only McAfee and Nortons can still block network traffic if they are disabled.
