805572 2009-08-31 02:40:00 Hi Guys

New to the forum, hopefully this is being posted in the right area .

I need to get broadband and a phone line hooked up at my new place and wondered what are my best options?

I want around 4-10gig/month
Don't really use a phone line, only getting it hooked on for the internet
I don't anticipate living in this place for the next 12 months so would prefer a no contract plan or very minimal early termination charges

I've looked at quite a few and Orcon seems to be the only one that comes close with no setup fees, no contract, $88/month for 6 gig with a land line and calls extra .

Does anyone know of any plans that would be better or similar that are worth checking out?

Thanks

What part of the country are you in?

805575 2009-08-31 03:46:00 Since you don't have much need for a phone line, you could look at Naked DSL options (basically it uses your phone line for internet, but you don't have to pay for the land line as such). Since you're probably "rural" the cost savings won't be as great as if you were in a major city.

Check out Snap, Xnet and Slingshot as they all offer Naked DSL plans (I think Orcon might too).

a_walker might be zoned as "Rural", which would push the cost up to $89.95 for that plan.

805578 2009-08-31 03:53:00 because I'm a rural customer both of those plans pctek recommended are $89.95 each. For that money I'm best to get a land line. a walker (15215)
805579 2009-09-01 02:48:00 I'm going to reword my question a bit.

Does anyone know of any other providers who don't have a connection/disconnection fee like Orcon?

805580 2009-09-01 03:04:00 They all do nowdays.
And you may not be rural. I'm not and its a piddly little town........

But the original poster could be classified as rural.

Taupo may be bigger than where you live. But one person here is a rural member for example.
