2008-05-28 06:41:00 | Well here's one: www.trademe.co.nz A quick Google (and I mean 60 seconds work...pctek) reveals this: "Can I get an Invalid's Benefit? If you have a permanent sickness, injury or disability that stops you working you may be able to get an Invalid's Benefit to help meet your living costs. To qualify for an Invalid's Benefit you must be 16 or over and: * unable to regularly work 15 hours or more a week because of a sickness, injury or disability which is expected to last at least 2 years or * your life expectancy is expected to be less than 2 years and you are unable to regularly work 15 hours or more a week or * blind with a specified level of restriction in your visual field or in the sharpness of your vision." So it seems that Invalid's benefit is not work tested.... www.winz.govt.nz

2008-05-28 10:27:00 | I think all sickness beneficiaries should have to front up to a panel of a doctor, a plumber and a truck driver or other tax payer, etc to see if they qualify. You cannot trust doctors or WINZ staff alone. Then any beneficiary who is a benificiary as a result of their actions eg druggie, alcoholic, smoker, fat arse, should be put in a room on cold turkey at their expense till they are clean. And if they do it again., then cut them off for good. I am sick of supporting losers. Why is there no politcian with Balls ?

2008-05-28 10:35:00 | Why is there no politcian with Balls ? In this 'politically correct' world, none of them have balls. I've always thought natural selection is the best way to go. And taxpayers having to pay for drug addicts and lazy bastards proves my thoughts. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm still more than happy to know that tax also goes to people who genuinely needs it.

2008-05-28 10:50:00 | Don't they have govt field officers that is trained/experienced in the sickness field who liase with Drs? Re: normal unemployment, what about getting govt jobs that is the lower level jobs and assign them to it ... but not sure if this conflicts with any laws esp .. ERA or the Privacy Act. Pay them their market value for them, based on their skills and experience and the job. If they are good why not assign a fixed term agreement with them. If they refuse then suspend their (benefit) payments for 6 months. Assign a officer to deal with them and courses that is individually tailored that works with them for each application and not just give them general advice for like how to write a letter/CV and interviewing skills.

2008-05-28 12:00:00 | /blabber about my WINZ story, don't read if you don't want to. It sucks to see this type of stuff happen because when I had a sporting accident and had just finished school I asked what could help me until I get back on my feet. I was 18 at the time and they put me on the Under 21 Unemployment Benefit where I had to attend a seminar 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Are they serious? Dead serious apparently. Hey its only a head injury with vision, speech and memory problems later on in life but you can still walk right? Now because I was underage I would only get 60% or so of the normal benefit unless I could verify I was independent from my parents. But I could not prove this as I was living with a mate, thus no bills, only cash under the table. The bills where in his name anyway! So that didn't pass and I was paid a whole $115 each week. Noodles then became my best friend. Now because it was a head injury I was not allowed to drive but it wasn't that bad as it was only 40 minute walk to get to the WINZ building. Then I had to actually talk with other people who can't find work and do these ridicules tests while feeling like my head is about to explode. Now if I missed a day I would be kicked off the benefit and had to restart the whole process again so I went along with it while trying to sort out a better method to all of this with my case managers. The fifth day rolls by and somehow nothing had changed, I stopped going and decided to goto a different GP who put me down as overstressed and to take a few days off. WINZ didn't like this and told me I would have to restart the seminar again next month but for the meantime they will continue the payments. I then left Auckland for monetary reasons, they somehow found out and immediately canceled payments (which was harsh as it was the same day I went into the local WINZ building). I'm now living in what most would call a very low income area while working and studying full-time to get back what I once had. It is quite possible that if they had done things properly I would have recovered and been looking for work until I got one. They can support an Asthma patient for 19 years who smokes a pack a day but can't support the people who will be the working front in years to come. If I had known earlier I would of said my Asthma was bad instead of mentioning the head injury  But yeah, thanks WINZ :annoyed:

I dont work as much as I used to and I do cash jobs where I can because I have had enough of all the state sanctioned bludgers in NZ. What a shame as we could have been a really neat country to get ahead in. | royaloaks (8205) | ||
