Not necessarily - Apple's resale agreements can be quite specific and un-end-user-friendly....

True but they are also arranging deals with carriers to sell unlocked iPhones and have said that they are not going to stick to a single plan or agreement.

"Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Investment Symposium, Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook stated that the iPhone isn't beholden to the one-carrier strategy used so far, even if it makes the most sense from a business standpoint."

It all sounds like a euphemism for "bleed 'em till they drop dead".

However, it now appears like my next phone may be a Vodafone after all (there is not much chance it will be an iPhone though) ;) .

That may depend on what the other smart phones have to offer and how that compares with the iPhone unless you're just after a basic phone.

I mean he's right, just not for the customer.

Well, I have this quaint notion that the main function of a phone is to conveniently and cost effectively allow me to send or receive phone and text messages. All qualifying ones go into a draw to see what I buy.

So, the iPhone is not even going in the hat.

673276 2008-05-28 10:50:00 And I am sure that telecoms decision not to unlock their phones, plus the Commerce Commissions letter, had nothing to do with it.
Just a pity they haven't listened to feedback about the very high data and call rates for non contract users.

Probably not if your just after a basic phone for calls and txts. I will just be interested to see what Vodafone will be offering. My phone is also due for replacement but another basic replacement may be what I am after.
