805418 2009-08-30 20:21:00 Well thats the main thing its going :banana If this is the mobo (www.ecs.com.tw) I would update the BIOS while you can. Then reconfigure the BIOS again, then save the settings. Speedy Gonzales (78)
805419 2009-08-31 22:03:00 I am trying to update the BIOS but the floppy disk doesn't seem to be going so I have been looking at bootdisk.com to make a bootable cd. I am having difficulty with copying their .iso file and the BIOS files onto the same cd.

BTW, when I switched on the computer this morning the bios recognised all the HDD's and then went to the screen explaining windows wasn't shut down properly and to move arrow to choose safe mode, etc or start normally.

I pushed the arrow key to go to safemode and it seems the keyboard doesn't work, yet it worked when I pushed the DEL key to enter setup?

805420 2009-08-31 23:40:00 Umm you have to burn the ISO to the cd (not copy the iso as is) to a cd. It wont work otherwise.

If you know the floppy is working (or was working), the cable maybe connected the wrong way round. Is the led on the floppy on all the time?? If it is the cable is the wrong way round

805421 2009-09-01 00:02:00 Yeah, that's what I've been doing. My program gives the option to "create disc from image file". Maybe I'm burning the wrong ISO. The CD boots the computer but doesn't give me a prompt to run the bios files.

The led on the floppy doesn't come on at all and the keyboard stops working after I exit the BIOS. Do any of these things give a clue that something is on its way out?

805422 2009-09-01 00:08:00 Add the ISO to whatever program, then add the BIOS update (unzip it first), and the BIOS flash program to it. Then burn it

Get the 98 bootdisk from bootdisk.com. Unzip it (if its the zippped file). Add it to the cd (dont add the folders the DOS files are in tho). Add the files to the root directory / folder of the cd. Then (hopefully), if the BIOS has an option to boot from cd, change it to CD. Save settings, reboot. It SHOULD boot from cd, into DOS. WHAT program are you using for the ISO?

805423 2009-09-01 00:17:00 Toshiba Disc Creator that came with my laptop. I'll give it another go :thanks Raewyn (946)
805424 2009-09-01 04:31:00 Alrighty, I changed the keyboard and mouse to ps/2 and restarted computer. The bios recognised all the HDD's and then went to the screen explaining windows wasn't shut down properly and to move arrow to choose safe mode, etc or start normally.

I was able to move the arrow key to go to safemode it stops HERE (homepages.slingshot.co.nz).

I restart and go to safemode again and choose "Last Good configuration" and it stops in the same place HERE (homepages.slingshot.co.nz).

So I restart and check that BIOS First Boot Device is CDROM and it is HERE (homepages.slingshot.co.nz).

But then I notice the CD-ROM doesn't show HERE (homepages.slingshot.co.nz)?

I restart with Boot CD and it goes back to original screen HERE (homepages.slingshot.co.nz).

I am not sure if there is anything else I can do? :badpc:

805425 2009-09-01 04:38:00 Try another program. That program may just burn ISO's for recovery cd/dvd's.

Something like Imgburn (http://imgburn.com/) should do it, its free.

805426 2009-09-01 04:42:00 I would be doing a diagnostic on the main hard drive at this point, with all the others unplugged. Grab the UBCD (www.ultimatebootcd.com), and run either the WD diag or if that won't work use the IBM or Seagate one. wratterus (105)
805427 2009-09-01 21:45:00 Good Morning,

It doesn't seem to want to boot up now. So I started from scratch and disconnected power to all the drives, removed the memory and disconnected the keyboard and mouse. When I started the PC, the motherboard beeped. So usually that means the motherboard is okay.

So, I put in one RAM stick - no beep. I put it in the second slot - no beep. Did the same with the other RAM stick - no beeps. It continually goes back to the original screenshot (homepages.slingshot.co.nz).

Put both RAM in, connected the CD-ROM and FDD hoping it would boot from one of those as I had a boot CD and boot FDD. Plugged the keyboard and mouse back and started up. Waited for the message that something had changed and to push DEL to enter setup. But it went back to the original message *sigh*

The CD-ROM light flashes, but no action from the FDD. So I then plug in the HDD and no change; still see the original message. Doesn't want to let me back into the BIOS for some reason? :crying
