673611 2008-05-29 03:55:00 Three unsuccessful murder trials in a week is a bad look for the police. However "Not Guilty" only means the jury had a reasonable doubt, not that the wrong person was charged. Winston001 (3612)

Very well put!

673613 2008-05-29 09:56:00 I can't believe the storm over a few not-guilty findings - from politicians, legal robbers and the lot. I thought that was what juries were all about. If juries never brought in not-guilty findings, why have them? The so-called top lawyers who are doing the crying are the same people who defend and seek the not-guilty pleas.... their present mouthing off is all bandwaggon free publicity. Imagine what those few minutes on prime time TV and radio would cost if they had to pay for them. Bludgers all. Scouse (83)
673614 2008-05-30 04:29:00 Years ago a Wellington photographer I knew, was pulled for the murder of a 16yo girl Wendy Mays.
The Police grounds for arresting him was that she was last seen going into the building where he had his studio, and that Wendy Mays had been used as a model in a photo shoot he had done for Air New Zealand.
He said being accused held and continuously questioned for 24 hours, for a murder he knew he was quite innocent of was an unbelievable nightmare.
The interrogation went along the lines of - We know you did it, you know you did it, so come on get it off your chest and confess.
His nightmare ended when another tenant in the building committed suicide and left a note confessing to the crime.
He was released without a word of apology from the Police.
The Arthur Alan Thomas case is a prime example of where the investigating officers got tunnel vision in relation to their chosen suspect, and not only deliberately ignored evidence that could suggest that they were wrong, but actually fabricated evidence to support their supposition
