806950 2009-09-05 01:04:00 Maybe - just maybe the whole problem that I've had with L-things is that I have an Athlon XP 1 . 5 (Palomino) and there's a compatibility issue .

I am fooling around with Ubuntu for a thumb drive as my Soyo can boot from the USB in the Bios .

Maybe it won't work in that environment?

806951 2009-09-05 01:10:00 It'll work. Might be a bit slow. But it'll work. Cato (6936)
806952 2009-09-05 03:51:00 Urghhh! Slow I do not want.

I'm an Ah-meer-i-khan and I want speed and I want it NOW!

806953 2009-09-05 04:06:00 If you want speed use Puppy gary67 (56)
806954 2009-09-05 07:02:00 I very much doubt that the processor would be an issue.

You may have a problem with the video or graphic card.

I have two AMD Athlon computers here and I put Linux on both of them without installation issues depending on which distribution I used.

806955 2009-09-05 08:54:00 You gotta remember though Sweep that this is SJ we're talking about - he has a record. If anything L-shaped can possibly go wrong, it will go wrong when he tries it. Even if the problem doesn't exist for anyone else, you can guarantee that something will manifest itself... Erayd (23)

Very true. SJ has a record of failing L installs in the past. I know this even if I can't get PressF1 to remember what threads I have read. :-)

Goes off to think about what would happen if SJ lived in an L shaped house. Possibly the Vegemite kitchen may be different to the Marmite kitchen in so far as one kitchen may contain Tacos and Toast for example and the other holds Porridge and whatever. The mind boggles.

806958 2009-09-05 20:55:00 Surfer Joe, I know just what you mean:eek: I can totally empathise with this one; these guys are just not funny:mad:
I've tried, struggled, agonised 'till I'm just about gah gah :waughh: to get Debian Lenny, Ubuntu or Linux Mint going on this new machine of mine - no go:annoyed:

XP Pro and Win 7 work fine, but Linux.....nope.
Yet Debian, on my old Intel PC, which I set up as a server, fine, easy install. Before that, Gentoo, fine as well, not an easy install but that's the nature of the beast.
I built this machine with swap racks, for backups and so I could play around with different os's and to do that I have 3 hard drive's in cartridges that can be swapped around (plus one semi permanently left in which runs XP).

Machine runs an Athlon 7750 chip and has Nvidia on board graphics (which I feel might just be part of the trouble).

So long as SJ doesn't drive an L shaped car with L shaped wheels all will be well Sweep
