806569 2009-09-03 03:28:00 When using Microsoft Access 2007 I want the first column to be standard numbers from 1 to 15, only problem is that it seems to default to 5 and I cannot change it to 1? Any experts on using Access, we'd love a friend.

The first column usually is a primary key and defaults to 1.

A table, Query, Form or what?

More info needed.

806571 2009-09-05 11:42:00 Newteach, a Relational Database just doesn't work the same way as a spreadsheet. The info on this page www.mvps.org will very briefly explain why.

For a table of only 15 records, there's a Quick and Dirty fix. Using it feels a bit like using a precision spanner as a hammer, or using a chisel as a screwdriver though. :-)
You can force a renumbering as explained on this page. www.mvps.org

A better way is to add another Number column and use that to display your sequential numbers, leaving the AutoNumber column for Access to do its "behind the scenes" work.

Have a good look through the http://www.mvps.org/ site. It's been around since Access 2.0 and there's a few gems.

I did not check your links but I believe you are on the right track.

Maybe Newteach should use a database such as Works which is not relative as such. Flat file database and easy to set up in my view.

Waits for a reply from Newteach.
