806386 2009-09-02 22:21:00 Hey guys sorry to drag up an old thread pressf1.co.nz but I wanted to get one of the programs off the dvd so I looked for the copy that I made but I cannot find it because I have just moved most of my stuff out of my room for painting. So found the original disk and I thought hey I will try it in my new pcs so I stuck it in my laptop and the name of the disk showed up after about 3 mins but when I try to open the disk explorer crashes so I stuck it in the pc in my sig same thing showed name and crashed explorer.
So went to the only pc in the house that would read it (which also happens to be the only Win XP Home pc as well) and it opened but then the antivirus came up and said that the folder I was trying to open had a virus in it and would not let me open or copy it. Please any help on fixing this or getting another pc to read it would be good.

806387 2009-09-02 23:50:00 I would scan your system. Sounds like some inf file has been infected. Or something has been infected with something like conficker

If you've got anything like removable hdds / flash drives, scan them as well

Once its removed, update windows.

806388 2009-09-02 23:59:00 If there is a program, or file on the CD that is a virus, or acts like a virus then that's why it wont open, the antivirus is doing its job. This could also be why explorer is crashing.

I have that when I try to use some of the programs from Nirsoft (http://www.nirsoft.net/) - password recovery programs.

Both Nod32 and Spyware terminator block them -as they act like a virus - they aren't its just the way they work.

806389 2009-09-03 01:14:00 any idea how I would get other pcs to read the disk? nedkelly (9059)
806390 2009-09-03 01:23:00 You can try disabling or turning off the AV - but not a very clever move if there are infections on the CD. wainuitech (129)
806391 2009-09-03 01:49:00 sorry maybe should have been a bit more specific. The computers will not read the disk at all they just say it is blank when it is not nedkelly (9059)
806392 2009-09-03 01:55:00 Has it been finalised?? If you were adding files to it?

Doesnt sound like it has been, otherwise the other pcs would read it. Altho there's no point putting it in other pcs when youve already done it on one, and it said theres a virus on it. If youre not careful if the cd hasnt been finalised, it may infect the computers youre putting it in

806393 2009-09-03 02:34:00 I did not make it. It was made for me. If it infects the pc it does not matter as the pc that reads it is the pc that I will be reinstalling soon. nedkelly (9059)
