| 674826 | 2008-06-02 03:23:00 | Apologies Thomas. I wasnt meaning to offend either. but that link did say they were driving the wrong way....so maybe their age is part of it. My mother still drives and she is 75 as well. so its not that i am against older drivers, just some may not be as good as others. Im actually amazed that you ( all people) get a license and thats it, you dont have to resit it every so many years to make sure you are a safe driver / legal, no matter what age you are. Have a nice day. beetle:) You didn't offend beetle. But I am going to offer a slight change to your memo. How about :- "My mother still drives and she is 75 as well. so its not that I am against me driving when I am older, its just that I may not be as good as others." Makes it feel a bit different doesn't it? Oh and we do get tested. Only for health and eyesight which seems sensible. Tom |

| 674832 | 2008-06-02 04:56:00 | I'm living in what we call "Seizure World" here in SoCal . There are some really old people next town over in Sun City, but their parents live here . We get old peeps who drive into stores and shops . . that were not a drive-thru in the first place . Any merchant, at any time, can find himself flopped over the hood of a Buick, with the Fedora-wearing driver's foot stuck to the floor on the gas pedal, being driven into the parking lot or the next building, tires still smoking and spinning . ( . cnn . com/2003/US/West/07/16/farmers . market . crash/" target="_blank">www . cnn . com) "I thought it was the brake!" All you see driving cars are blue hair and knuckles . Vehicle dashboard gauges, speedometer, warning lights, and fuel level indicators are all covered with rosaries, crucifixes and pictures of a favorite saint or their children . If there are no surviving children, then pictures of their cats or dogs are there instead . The rear window package tray holds 83 stuffed animals in fluffy, life-like fur . They MIGHT be the stuffed pets from times past! Don't look too closely at the person in the passenger's seat . . the same fate might've befallen him too . There are tire marks on most of the sidewalks . . . NZ= pathways I think . However, surviving pedestrians are very agile! Stop signs are an annoying option . . if they are noticed at all . Green traffic lights may mean nothing if they aren't the driver's favorite shade of green . Yellow lights mean: "Slow down just enough to fool pedestrians and at the last moment hit the gas to make the jump" . Blinking left turn signals are permanent . The most dangerous driver in town is an old man wearing a hat with a nasty scowl on his face . Either the prunes didn't work or he's gonna commit suicide-by-other-driver . There are ExLax ( . google . com/imgres?imgurl=http://kozmicdreams . com/images/Home%2520and%2520Collections/ephemera/health%2520and%2520beauty/ex%2520lax%2520top . jpg&imgrefurl=http://kozmicdreams . com/medications . htm&h=539&w=540&sz=155&hl=en&start=40&tbnid=aldOv67OUerazM:&tbnh=132&tbnw=132&prev=/images%3Fq%3DExLax%26start%3D20%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3" target="_blank">images . google . com D20%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg . mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN) dispensers on the gas station counters . Most old ladies and almost ALL old men have their middle fingers stuck out straight, and it's not a form of arthritis either . "Their" lane is wherever they are at the moment . . . . subject to sudden and deadly change . Roadway lines are not for them; they are exempt . Same with seatbelts and working headlamps . . all exemptions . All road speed limits are halved for them and they will not pull over to let a person pass . They have no place to go and all day to get there . Why? Being that old and growing more senile every moment they should be in a hurry to get there before they expire! :dogeye: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A couple of old ladies are riding in a car and Ethyl looks just in time to see that Maude has run through a red light . Not wanting to cause her friend any shame, she says nothing about it . A few blocks later, Ethyl sees Maude blow through ANOTHER red light, and this time asks her: "Didn't you see those last two red lights?" Maude says: "Goodness!! Am I driving?" Pray for me . . . I drive in Hemet . |

I dont had a neighbour one time who had passed 80 and lost his liscense the quack refused to pass him........seems he couldn't understand it.....anyway he asked me as I had some time to spare if I could drive him into town now and then in his newly purchased car......it was a toyota corolla late 80's vintage .......I said ok....well the first time we went anywhere I drove off.........1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th..........POP.....it jumped out of 5th.......(they're sometimes known for this apparently)........he says; "what are you doin" I say "bloody thing jumped out of 5th"........he says "it doesn't have 5 speeds"............ I say.........."look here mate see the gear lever it's marked on the top" !!! suffice to say after that I understood why he had lost his liscense |
