674354 2008-06-01 05:12:00 I did consumer work for the CAB for some years.

The difficulty in any problem - repair/replace/cash return is getting things done.

You can have all the rights in the world and still not get a result, usually due to the other party shagging about or suchlike.

On the other hand, some outfits bend over backwards to honour their company name regardless if they are in the right or wrong.

The CGA is great, Consumer extended warranties are an extra. getting either or both to work is another matter

674355 2008-06-01 08:51:00 ? - I am recording freeview daily on my Sony HDD recorder. It has limitations though, which is possibly what you mean?Yes, that's right. I mean that you can't record without an external decoder attached to the inputs of the DVD recorder. This isn't ideal, because, as you say you can't record HD. Additionally, and more importantly for most people, is that if you want to record multiple programs on different channels, you would need to set your decoder to switch channels at the right times and also your DVD recorder to record at the right times. :) maccrazy (6741)
674356 2008-06-02 00:32:00 Does the HDD run all the time the Recorder is switched on or does it not run when put to DVD?. Just curious!! Pato (2463)

I have two HDD recorders, replaced two VHS recorders in the last 18 months. The Panasonic HDD goes to sleep after about 20min of no useage. Not sure about the Sony as I only record on timer and only switch it on to play something recorded, then turn it off. Don't use it as a tuner like the Panny in the family room.

KenOIC. Well our LCD TV runs through the Sony RDR-HX750 Recorder and have to have it on all the time. I wondered if the HDD ran all the time; not that it matters because the PC stays on most of the time with the HDD going. Everything seems to be coming down in price so quickly I guess it will be quite cheap to replace when the time comes.

What do you mean you have to have your Sony RDR-HX 750 going all the time. I have one of those connected up to my Sony LCD TV and have it going in Standby mode just like a VCR and switch it on when I want to record/playback anything.

:)Well that is the way they set it up when installed. We have Telestra Cable and the Recorder has to be on to watch TV. If I put the Recorder in the Standby mode I loose the TV.

674361 2008-06-02 03:26:00 That dosn't sound right to me. I don't know anything about connecting cable TV though. I have Sky connected to mine. I would get someone to check that out other than the Telstra installer. If they are anything like Sky installers they know pidly squat. Sky sent me a questionare to fill out about what the installer had done and half the things it asked I had to say no to.
:)

:)I guess I could get it checked but the trouble is every time a serviceman puts his foot in the door it costs an arm and a leg LOL.

To avoid having to have the Sony recorder on to just watch telly, hook up a coaxial cable from Sony coax output to LCD coax input. The signal then just goes straight through the Sony.
