| 673818 | 2008-05-30 04:27:00 | Their names are lost in time, but they should not be forgotten: 1] Whoever thought up the steak and cheese pie. 2] The first person to slap some bacon between 2 pieces of buttered bread. 3] The inventor of the deep fried hot chip. 4] The chaps or chapesses or who first realised that that what happened to fruit/grain when left to ferment had interesting possibilities. 5] All those crazy, cold Scots who spent the time perfecting single malt whiskey. 6] The folks who worked out how to make bread. Where would we be without them? 7] The inventor of boxer shorts, who saved us from a life time of Y-fronts (OK, so boxers probably came before Y-fronts. I don't care.). 8] Whoever dreamed up boat shoes. I don't care if people say they're unfashionable and belong in the 1908s - there's no better thing for your feet. 10] Whoever worked out how to make glass, without which we would never have had bottles, without which we would never have had bottled beer. 11] Whoever worked out how to domesticate animals, thereby leading directly, thousands of years later, to the invention of .... 12] The hamburger. There's a few people who are tagged as the "inventor" of the hamburger. Who knows the truth. But our great, decadent, amoral Western society wouldn't be the overfeed, obese force for good in the world that it is without them. |

The Earl of Sandwich 3] The inventor of the deep fried hot chip. A disgruntled U.S cook, fed up with his picky customer, so he deep fried his thinly sliced spuds as revenge. Only he liked em 4] The chaps or chapesses or who first realised that that what happened to fruit/grain when left to ferment had interesting possibilities. Romans? Or was it the Egyptians (they discovered sourdough by accident I think...) 10] Whoever worked out how to make glass, without which we would never have had bottles, without which we would never have had bottled beer. Phonecian sailors? 12] The hamburger. There's a few people who are tagged as the "inventor" of the hamburger. Who knows the truth. But our great, decadent, amoral Western society wouldn't be the overfeed, obese force for good in the world that it is without them. The residents of hamburg? |
