806668 2009-09-03 12:47:00 Hi there I am looking to build this computer, can you please give me your input, dont worry about the cost of this as I have had a sort of windfall of sorts.

Thanks in advance

806669 2009-09-03 13:02:00 Why are you getting 2x AS5 12g tubes? 1x 3.5g tube is more than enough for about 15 CPU applications.

Ditch the V10 cooler - it's heavy, too freaking huge, very expensive and is not as good as a TRUE120 or Prolimatech Megahalems. Get any of the latter two instead.

I don't know if you'll need a Blue-Ray drive but personally I'd just get an Asus DVD-drive.

8GB RAM is overkill.....just get 4GB.

Nice choice of motherboard, but do you really want to spend more than $700 on the P55 motherboard alone? For less than $400 you can get a decent Asus or GB X58 motherboard.

There's little point in getting 2x GTX295s. Pctek will vouch for that. Performance increase will not be significant and the price is just astronomical. In fact in some cases performance may even decrease.

Due to the above a 1500W PSU is too much. Just get nice Antec 850W or any good brand 850W+ PSU.

806670 2009-09-03 13:18:00 He's building a $13,000 computer, let him have $70 worth of thermal paste  beeswax34 (63)
806671 2009-09-03 13:25:00 Also why do you need a seperate gigabit LAN card for $419?
Most mainboards have gigabit lan onboard already.

806672 2009-09-03 20:59:00 I suppose its more of a want... and the thermal paste is because im also considering water cooling on the cpu, chipset, gpx, (ram, hdds).

1500w psu because you wont ever have to worry about it...

Yep, agree with that.

I'd not bother with the NIC either.

It doesn't matter if you won Lotto or whatever - the thing will still become obsolete. Not for a bit, but why bother? Get the Core i7, a decent X58 board and the 295 card, but no need to get unnecessary things. Keep back some money for upgrading it later.

+1 to that.

It won't be long beforet that $13,000 rig will be worth less that half of that.

NIC is definetly overkill, and I agree with qaz, get a TRUE over the V10.
And a decent fan too.

806675 2009-09-03 23:08:00 13k on a computer are you serious?
You'd be better to spend 2k now, 2k in 2 years time and so on and so on. A 2k computer in 2 years time will be faster than any 13k computer you buy today.

806676 2009-09-03 23:30:00 Hmmm, I agree with PCT on the killer NIC, you wont notice any difference over onboard GB LAN.
With a big 26"LCD, you may require a dual GPU setup, although you could just start with 1 until necessity dictates, however P55 chipset will only give you PCIe x16 or 2 x 8 slots. Therefore you may wish to contemplate the x58 chipset with i7, although the i5 turbo mode of 4-5 bin will be killer. On the other hand though, the i7 will clock 5 bins anyway.....

What I did notice missing a 2nd TB HDD for a nice storage redundancy RAID 1, and NO SSD...come on!!???

edit - oh...didnt see the 6 x hdd, 4 x LCD & 2 x gpu??....is this a windup?
