676180 2008-06-09 04:46:00 I wasn't blaming Jan. Just asking for answers from him since he is our main link between the forum and PC World. beeswax34 (63)
676181 2008-06-09 04:58:00 nono, but I'm sure you remember from your time here that our servers are as reliable as a drunk politician.

Actually, given the minimal level of human and technical resources put into them, they are remarkably reliable. There are two main issues with service from a technical standpoint:

1] the ongoing decision to house the servers locally rather at a data centre, so that any technical issue requires FBM's own - minimal - tech support staff to fix. Following on from that ...

2] the continued small size of the tech staff.

Both situations are directly responsible for most outages at F1.

676182 2008-06-09 04:59:00 I hope you do get it sorted soon, as these are ongoing problems, and you may find that the people who provide the most help on these forums will get fed up with both the terrible reliability and , and will head over to geekzone.

I hope that the owners of this forum (Fairfax?) will be posting a message about these problems, as I for one am fed up with the reliability and recent excessive ads that make using this website pretty difficult.

OK kids, time for a reality check.

Voicing your frustration at excessive ad load (and it is) and poor uptime record in the forums will get you no where. Scott and Jan have no power to influence these matters, and any criticism they forward on is automatically diluted by being 2nd hand.

You want action, take action. Write directly to the management and express your dissatisfaction. Write letters to the editor. Either do that or don't bother. Bleating here gets you no where.

676183 2008-06-09 05:22:00 I'm glad I dropped in again today - I dont often do so now because of the abysmal state of the whole forum with more and more adds and a total neglect of it's users interests.
I see things are no better, a whole lot worse in fact.
I did not renew my pc world mag when it expired in February - after a couple years of reading the mag it seems to be going the same direction as the site - downhill.

Bruce - who do you think you are to tell me where to bleat or not?

If I want to bleat here along with many others that the place is going to the dogs, and if Scott and Jan don't make the case strong enough in their reporting of it - well thats up to them and management to ignore the issue.

I would say in another six months this place will be almost a "ghost town" the way it is treating it's forum members.

bye .....

676185 2008-06-09 05:34:00 Bruce - who do you think you are to tell me where to bleat or not?

Users have complained in these forums continually about:

1] excess ads
2]poor ad placement
3] downtime
4]etc etc

And has it helped? I'm not telling you not to complain. I'm merely pointing out that if you want your complaints to be addressed, then posting in the forum is not the best way to do that. If you have a serious beef with a company, do you get bashing on the poor front end person who can't do much, or do you go and complain to the manager? It's just common sense.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I mean people don't get very far complaining about petrol prices to the petrol forecourt person. However people here aren't really in a position to get in direct contact with the owners of Fairfax (I assume they are in Australia), nor are we aware of the Fairfax heirarchy, or how this website is run. I am sure that Fairfax would insulate themselves pretty well from direct contact with public compliants anyway. Does the contact form at pressf1.co.nz where we can enter 'website feedback' get to the 'right person', or is someone able to post the contact details here of the person that people should be complaining to. It does sound like there is also some frustration by the people who work for Fairfax that run this forum, regarding these chronic problems.
