Brucie :D you have a point here, although I would not include the word "love" or "loving" in the same post as "WMG". ;)

John H - you also have a point. Hey, I KNEW I was feeding  the troll, but I did so in order for him to expose a lack of substance even more.

I used to be annoyed at those who think they find something clever and then cough it up for others to see how smart they are in presenting it, but never bother to check Snopes or google for hoaxes, urban myths, misrepresentations, etc. Now I usually find them entertaining in a twisted way. Most of my email contacts know better than to send me a "too good to be true" story because they know I will bust it. A few months ago I did get caught off guard for a few minutes. A friend in the states sent a story with photos about the KKK endorsing Obama. So impressed was I, by the black presidential hopeful getting the trust of the KKK, I started to forward the story onto a big chunk of my email contacts when a bell rang in the back of my head telling me to CHECK THE STORY FIRST. It took me all of 20 seconds to find it was a hoax so I sent the Snopes hoax-bust back to my friend who was ever so impressed which made me wonder about him (always though he was a clever skeptic) being impressed by a 20 second Google search.

Zippy, I suggest you listen to our parliamentary debates, or an interview with Winston. There you will learn clever ways of dodging a question and side stepping facts. Even :yuck: WMG dodged better than you.

675609 2008-06-07 07:11:00 Go to Snopes and find which of the Not Exactly's you are scared about, then tell us which one(s) it is. Include the Snopes explanation. If you are unwilling to do this, so we can see exactly what worries you, then it will confirm my suspicions about what is behind your post.

Lets see how weak or substantial your post is.

The 50 "Lies" probably come down to speech writer over enthusiasm but as Zippity says only about 15 of the 50 are rebutted by Snopes. How can he include explanations that aren't there?

Easy. Just pick any of the 35 that are deemed to be untrue (not rebutted by Snopes) and post it here along with your (Zip's) commentary.
This is my challenge.

Zip possibly won't do it because there is not a single CLAIM of the 50 Not Exactly's that is labeled as FALSE (as is done with other Snope's bustings).

The only one that I can find at the moment (I'll admit that I have not now carefully read every single word on Snopes, but have instead speed-scanned it) is this one:

CLAIM: I Was A Constitutional Lawyer - LIAR, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

SNOPES COMMENT: Between 1993 and 2002, Barack Obama worked as a civil rights lawyer with the Chicago law firm of Miner, Barnhill & Galland.

Did Obama actually claim that he was a constitutional lawyer? Where and when? Site a reference. It is possible that he lied. I do not worship the man, but unless a valid reference is given, the claim is baseless.

Its like this - I do not believe everything a politician :waughh: says, AND I sure do not believe the insinuations, conspiracies and fantastic claims that are emailed around the world - unless it has factual references that can be substantiated.

And now folks, after my attempt at rationality, we will probably see Zippy pop up with some inane remark as a last gasp effort to divert us from the apparent situation where he was sucked into believing all of the 50 Not Exactlys.

Or maybe I'm wrong about Zip. Maybe he's just having fun with us, setting bait to be taken. After all WMG is no longer here, and Metla seems to have mellowed or maybe tamed by the mods, so I can understand why someone would want to stir things up.

But in any case I do think from a wider perspective the first post in this thread is a fine example of The Tall Poppy Syndrome in full swing.

Yeah, I know. Sean Collins makes one wonder, and while I cannot now be bothered reading all of his article, I will say there have been a number of newly elected presidents without a lot of huge accomplishments, without much 'presidential' experience. Hells bells, Reagan comes to mind, and history shows that his time in the White House to be not so bad at all. Schwartznegger also - people laughed when he first ran for governor but from what I have heard he has done a better job than most other govs.

I'm waiting for someone to do a fair analysis of Obama's track record. Sean Collins does not do this, from what I can see scanning his article. Its all too easy to say that Obama is full of rhetoric, a skilled orator with no substance. Its the Tall Poppy Syndrome. People see an orator with charisma and want to trash him for looking and sounding good (maybe we are to used to our Helen looking and sounding not so good, LOL).

I guess the only way to tell will be after the first 100 days as president, IF he does get there.

Western culture and civilisation is under a sustained attack from militant Islam, and appeasement will only see the problem get worse.
Let us all trust that whoever the American voters elect, that that individual and his administration are up to the job

So true, so true.

They may be slow learners, like about 7 years to realize what Bush is, but surely Americans would never again vote for another brainless person like Bush.
