676622 2008-06-09 21:24:00 And nah, i don't regret going bigger.

I connect my 32" tele to my PC via HDMI so i can watch DVD-RIPs and DVD's, games and general use.

Thanks - I think the $1399 32" V Series + free 160GB HDD DVD Recorder is the way to go. :punk

676623 2008-06-09 21:28:00 We will tolerate Plasma/LCD Televisions for now until the next two waves of new technology flash by us.

SED TV probably sooner than Holographic TV
3D 360 Holographic Television is not too long away, maybe 15 years.

I am 90,do you suggest I hang on a bit?

LOL Come on, you can do it:-)

If you are like me you may need to get higher spec'd glasses to even see the tv set let alone the picture by then.

So whats the plan Wrato.?

Sounds good, but is it the best at the mo?

I was told yesterday a new Samsung was the best to date,at N/L!

676626 2008-06-09 21:45:00 That's right - plasma USED to be better in that respect, of late LCD has caught up, if not overtaken plasma in the contrast/blacks department.

Also the response time, now 8ms for most decent LCDs, looks as good if not better than plasma screens.

As for the 'detail', that has me slightly fuxed. I guess they could be talking about motion blur, which older LCDs suffered from something chronic, but an LCD monitor has always looked better with a still or slow pan image than a plasma. When the article was written, that may well have been the case. And Plasmas are still great for a TV, cost effective, but not really going to cut it for plugging into a PC, and full HD capabilities.

But geez guys! Sol just made a statement! Everyones so touchy these days....must be the cost of petrol... :illogical

Yes LCD have caught up.. But the Pioneer Kuro's still produce the best black levels.
Yes if you are going to plug in a PC then LCD is the way to go.
Also it is very hard to compare Plasma and LCD's in stores
As you can see I am in the Plasma camp, but it comes down to what you like. let your eyes and ears decide.

By the way petrol in the UK is 1.17 pounds for unlead and diesel is 1.35.

That TV is the plan ;) I like Sony, no amount of convincing from anyone will change that. :p

Samsung comes a close second though.

I will have a quick look around, but I think that deal from NL is very good. Get a $25 HDMI cable off TradeMe, and we're all go! :D

You can put USB drives in Sammy, wonder if you can with Sony jobby.
Oh and SD cards in Pano's.

Not saying necessary but handy.

676629 2008-06-09 22:12:00 Obviously a 32in wide format TV doesn't equate to a 32 in old fashioned format CRT in terms of viewing distance etc, but what is it considered roughly equiv. to? bonzo29 (2348)

IMO, a TV should be a TV, not a media center. Not that theres anything wrong with having those things on a TV, but thats what my PC is for.

Just another thing to go wrong.

Thats one thing I like about Sony, in general they are pretty 'honest' with their hardware, no frilly stuff. (Barring laptops, never buy a sony laptop). :p

Just "asked"SHMBO if the time is right to buy, saying all the good things mentioned, she said yes.
So I am off to H/N this morn, prefer to N/L and see if they can better deal,if so,it's hello 32"r.
