676372 2008-10-10 21:53:00 Yes and can you name one famous person from Iceland ?

It is / was probably doing well because it probably gets huge subsidies from the EU.

And if you have cheap power and no defence forces to pay for that is a good help.

And now all of their banks are falling over !

Bjork has been around for about 20 years now as a singer on the world stage had huge hits in Europe and America also been in some movies, one very powerful one about a woman with a long term illness who let herself be hung as a crim in 30's America to claim the insurance to get her own son cured of the same illness. Can't remember the name of the movie but it was something about dancing will google it well worth watching. Also Magnus Magnusson hosted a really hard quiz show in the UK for about 25 years then left to become director of the penis museum back in his home country.

676374 2008-10-10 21:58:00 Magnus Magnusson was presenter of BBC TV Mastermind for 25 years....his catch phrase was "I've started so I'll finish."
Although he worked in the UK for most of his life he retained his Icelandic citizenship.

676379 2008-10-10 22:16:00 Yeah I did but only because I heard about it don't know nothin' about it though, from Wikipedia see here (en.wikipedia.org) I haven't read it though so perhaps you would like to and report back :o gary67 (56)
676380 2008-10-11 16:33:00 OK I'm sorry about Bjork she is famous and kind of influential (but not my cup of ice) but Magnus Magnusson a quiz show host is hardly world shattering. Digby (677)
676381 2008-10-12 01:56:00 It would be if you had to sit in the leather chair and face the questions from what I heard, very intimidating. And the Vikings found Iceland and then Greenland before moving on to find America or Vinland as they called it. Iceland has the worlds oldest Parliament called the Althing too gary67 (56)
