676613 2008-06-09 11:06:00 For that price you could have the panny plasma 42" at Noel Leemings which includes a HDMI input!

My parents got one, I already have the 37" and can say I am jealous of the extra 5"

Gah!!

I hate it when people suggest this TV. The specs on it are ****e. The specs on the Sony 32" are a hell of a lot better.

And nah, i don't regret going bigger.

I connect my 32" tele to my PC via HDMI so i can watch DVD-RIPs and DVD's, games and general use.

You're well covered by the CGA and your home owner's insurance. Thats why its a scam.

676616 2008-06-09 19:32:00 Personal opinion as much as anything. I read a while back that some of the major manufacturers were steering away from Plasma, I guess that is why there are less Full HD capable Plasma TV's than LCD about.

LCD's are supposed to last longer and Plasma's; "Plasma has a large potential drawback in the form of burn-in or permanent ghosting. If you leave the same image on the screen for too long (like that little logo stations like to keep in the lower right-hand corner), it can leave a permanent impression on your screen."

Firstly non of the manufacturers that do Plasma are moving away from it.
Pioneer have stop making their panels in house, but will get them from a
third party. Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung and LG all do plasma's.
Both LCD and Plasma both roughly last around 60,000 hours.
Burn in is a problem of the past with the newer plasma's. Also it has been known for LCD to suffer burn in. (Having the contrast to high)

If you are using the TV for watching comedies, sitcoms and cartoons
go with the LCD. Nice big bright in your face colours.
If on the other hand you watch lot's of Movies and sports then go with the
Plasma, better blacks more depth and detail to the picture.

Yes when Pioneer announced they were getting out of Plasma panels the media took it as they were getting out of TV's all together. They have only stopped making the panels inhouse but they are still making Plasma TV's.

Yes more companies are doing LCD but it doesn't mean that Plasma is dead
Panasonic has just build a new factory to make plasma TV's.

This was what I was always told about plasma.....

676620 2008-06-09 21:13:00 We will tolerate Plasma/LCD Televisions for now until the next two waves of new technology flash by us.

SED TV probably sooner than Holographic TV
3D 360 Holographic Television is not too long away, maybe 15 years.

That's right - plasma USED to be better in that respect, of late LCD has caught up, if not overtaken plasma in the contrast/blacks department.

Also the response time, now 8ms for most decent LCDs, looks as good if not better than plasma screens.

As for the 'detail', that has me slightly fuxed. I guess they could be talking about motion blur, which older LCDs suffered from something chronic, but an LCD monitor has always looked better with a still or slow pan image than a plasma. When the article was written, that may well have been the case. And Plasmas are still great for a TV, cost effective, but not really going to cut it for plugging into a PC, and full HD capabilities.

But geez guys! Sol just made a statement! Everyones so touchy these days....must be the cost of petrol... :illogical
