807705 2009-09-07 22:08:00 But you do say Main PC which is what you are posting from?

The PC I'm posting from is SWMBO's PC. I was refering to my other PC as the main that I use for gaming and anything else.

Here's a suggestion.

Do nothing, and come back and report to us in 12 months time.

Reading between the lines of your replies (and hopefully I am wrong), you are NOT really interested in installing any AV programmes :(

Zippity, my question was do I need virus protection on my PC which isn't connected to the internet? I am interested if its required to safe guard the PC from viruses which may come from downloading zip files to my USB then transfering to the PC with out the internet.

807708 2009-09-07 22:22:00 You don't need it, if you want to be safe when installing stuff on cd etc. Insert the cd on your other PC with virus protection and see if it detects any malware. whellington (15030)
807709 2009-09-07 22:23:00 Well, in the end its up to you. Install one, if you want, dont if you dont want to Speedy Gonzales (78)

Scan the files before transferring it over to the other PC. If you have an active protection it will automatically scan downloaded files for you.

I want to install a virus protection program. What would be good to install to protect the PC from viruses that may come from USB drives.

807712 2009-09-07 22:44:00 Most will scan usb flash drives when you plug it in. Installing this update (support.microsoft.com) may reduce the possibility of a USB flash running an autorun.inf file (if its infected). It doesnt affect cd's or dvd's. Or USB flash drives, like U3 ones. But as someone has already pointed out, there's no point in installing one, if you cant update it Speedy Gonzales (78)
