| 807738 | 2009-09-07 12:22:00 | I have xp pro, Vista & Windows 7 on my computers. XP is brilliant, reliable, user friendly. Vista is Hostile, slow, bloated, hungry, and doesn't do anything that xp won't do. Has problems with drivers. Windows 7 is faster than Vista and runs all my old software. It seems to be XP with a less friendly GUI. Question is: Why spend money on Vista or W7 if they are no better than XP which is readily available? |

| 807741 | 2009-09-07 12:32:00 | Because XP can only support 3.5GB of memory. Or is that 32 bit? Either way, 64bit XP is balls and if I was originally corrent, that's pathetic in modern standards. I would say Windows 7 IS better than XP by a landslide, even Vista outperforms it in gaming benchmarks, which to be honest is what drives a lot of technology for the average user. Windows Vista and 7 look and feel a hell of a lot more modern, and really, if a company isn't releasing new stuff, and people aren't consuming it, then they're just going backwards. 7 is what vista should have been, so if you haven't used Vista and are looking to upgrade, wait for 7 (or grab the RC like myself). 7 is a FAR superior 64bit OS than XP was/is. That and XP will be discontinued in terms of updating eventually somewhat forcing you out. So in conclusion, it's slower in terms of gaming performance and it's seach functions are horrible, and it's dated. Why bother sticking with it? |

| 807742 | 2009-09-07 12:36:00 | Vista has probs with what drivers exactly?? If the mobo is one of the latest mobos, it shouldnt be a prob, get the drivers from the mobo maker's site. The only PC I had probs with was an ASUS K8N, with 1.25 Gb and 1.6 (ancient as). It doesnt have Vista drivers at all on the ASUS site. So, all I did was update the drivers thru device manager, and it found the audio drivers then installed them, (it installed the LAN during during the install), and its going fine. Its not as slow as I thought. |

Either way, 64bit XP is balls and if I was originally correct, that's pathetic in modern standards. 32 bit windows only supports between 3.25 - 3.5 GB. You need 64 bit, if you want more. I dont think people will stop using XP, even if MS no longer support it. Its stable, and people like it. There's nothing wrong with XP Pro x64. Well there's still updates for it. If you have the OS and the CPU, and you wanted to use more ram. You could use as much ram as the mobo supports |

| 807744 | 2009-09-07 19:36:00 | NOt that much to choose between them all now, no one is really that much better or worse than the other, I am considering Win 7 on my new build depending on price, as I want to learn how it all works not having had Vista as such. | gary67 (56) | ||
| 807745 | 2009-09-07 20:48:00 | Question is: Why spend money on Vista or W7 if they are no better than XP which is readily available? If you aren't interested in it's "new features" then there is no reason to other than making Bill Gates richer. Many people won't and will be using XP until forced to change. This is the case now - there are still a few people using old Win98 and Win ME PCs. Eventually it becomes harder and then impossible to find software avilable for these O/Ss and then you have to change to a newer one. Most people get an O/S by buying a new PC from a toaster shop and thus not getting a choice on what O/S is installed. Then there are a few who like the new one and buy it and install it. I will be, I want to move to 64bit and because of gaming. |

Get some decent hardware - had no problems with Vista being slow bloated etc. PS I just heard Windows 95 will suit you even better. |
