677864 2008-06-12 11:35:00 I'm looking at extending my network from a single 4-port wireless router to include a 8-port CNet CNSH-800E switch (good??). I would imagine that they are compatible - would the extra switch make a difference to the speed of the network?

One cable will run between the router and switch.

Here's my proposed network (www.imagef1.net.nz)

EDIT The Internet comes in through the wireless router

If its a 10/100 switch like the router then no.

All it'll be doing is letting you add more pcs to it via ethernet connections

No, the 2 threads are completely unrelated.

Here's my situation: ATM I have several machines at home that connect through a single ethernet cable to the router in the other room - currently I have to change that cable over to another PC if I want to access files from it, hence the purchasing of a switch :)

Is the switch I have chosen of decent quality?

677868 2008-06-12 23:34:00 IMHO most modern switches are much of a muchness, unless you're talking about enterprise managed switches like what Cisco make, where you can set up VLAN's etc . . . . . For home networks it really doesn't matter that much . nofam (9009)
