676810 2008-06-09 10:56:00 Hi everyone, I recently purchased a Mobile phone and the ringtone is not loud enough for me to hear all the time. The phone lives in my pocket most of the time and my occupation involves (sometimes) noisey equipment. What I am thinking is that if I download a new loud ringtone to my computer I can then transfer it to my phone. (samsung W531). Trouble is where do I get an .MP3 file that sounds like a ring tone and is loud. It can't sound like music because I think it is a radio playing somewhere. this is on the Telecom Network...Any/ All help is appreciated. Thanks Grace :help: :help: :help: :help: fluffydog (11346)

Loud rings can be a pain if you are in a quiet situation.

676812 2008-06-10 10:51:00 That would be fine but the vibrate on the phone is ..... how shall I put it.... not that vigourous..... If my Nokia phone is in my bag and I am carrying my bag I can feel it thru the handle.... but this is not the way for my Samsung phone, even in my pocket. If I am in the situation where it needs to be more discreet, I turn the phone volume down. So..... back to the original question... anybody????Thanks fluffydog (11346)
676813 2008-06-10 11:07:00 Download an MP3 that meets your needs (there's lot's of sites for this), get Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net) (free) and then open the file and increase the volume by using the menu option Effect>Amplify (you can put a factor in to increase it).

Then upload your MP3 file to your phone and select it as your ringtone.

676814 2008-06-10 22:26:00 Thanks for that answer.... sorry to be a pain.... but everytime I go into one of these websites it comes up with..... your provider does not support this service. ( even tho' my providers name is listed at the bottom of the ad)
 :banana

Any help is most appreciated...... just a thought can I download the current one into my computer and using the format described above do you think I would be able to up the volume. ( Technical stuff for me !!)

676815 2008-06-10 22:57:00 What kind of phone do you have? Often the ringtones are available only for specific (overseas) telecom companies . . . .

If you go to a general MP3 site (rather than a ringtone site) you may find a suitable noise that you can download and edit .

I have a large number of MP3 or WAV files suitable for ringtones and some of them even sound like ringers!!! . . . .

Not a problem for me to convert them for you if you like .

676816 2008-06-10 22:58:00 I dont think it uses mp3 but rather KOZ files, but Im not sure if its legal for me to tell you how to make them... other then going to the telecom music store via your phone and sifting through their catalouge. rob_on_guitar (4196)
676817 2008-06-10 22:59:00 Oops - and yes, if you can download the current ringtone on your phoneto your PC, you should be able to edit it to increase the volume. But for safety/fallback, I would recommend renaming the edited file so you didn't overwrite the original when it's uploaded again... johcar (6283)
676818 2008-06-11 22:04:00 Johcar..... If you are able to convert something that sounds like a ringtone and make it really loud ( then I can just turn the volume down accordingly on the phone ) that would be fantastic. :thanks What do you need from me so you can get it to me. ? fluffydog (11346)
