809247 2009-09-12 04:12:00 Hey man.

I had a Compaq with a Sempron processor, decided one day to upgrade to Turion, and only had trouble with it.

It seems quite common that laptop CPU upgrades/swaps cause problems - mainly overheating because the heating requirements of each are quite particular and their aint much airflow in a laptop :).

Not sure if you would encounter the same problems over Intel (I now have an Intel desktop and absolutely love it) - but I personally would transfer the RAM (and the HDD if it's bigger) from the Sony to the Compaq, as I imagine the Compaq CPU would be quicker.

This of course depends on the problem, if the HDD is crashed then you obviously can't do that....

So yer, you can give the CPU transfer a go if you like, the Compaq CPU should give you better performance though, it is a bit awkward with laptops - if you run into trouble jsut find a manual online (I bought one for mine of eBay for 5 bucks) to save you the $150 a 'technician' would charge.

809248 2009-09-12 04:36:00 Thanks, I don't think I will bother, I have taken the CPU out for display on my shelf :D

RAM will be transferred to his other lappie.
HDD has been put in a enclosure for him. All files available.
