808546 2009-09-10 05:55:00 Ok..

Lost my partition about 250gb worth of thing I have acquired from over the years.

What do I do?

Anything that can try and recover it without formating it?

Thanks.

808547 2009-09-10 05:57:00 disconnect the drive and slave it to another PC possibly running Linux, or just run a linux live CD gary67 (56)
808548 2009-09-10 06:01:00 Unfortunately I can't do that either... I just restarted the system and it didn't mount the partition (NTFS) in openSuse. Tried to mount it manually said it wasn't a valid NTFS partition or some such nonsense. Now I booted into Vista and it says it's formated. Cato (6936)
808549 2009-09-10 06:04:00 GetDataBack (www.runtime.org) for NTFS - I've had good success with that program. Not too sure how much the free demo does though. wratterus (105)
808550 2009-09-10 06:10:00 I use this one. Not cheap but works as advertised.

808551 2009-09-10 06:19:00 Had a look at the sectors in a Paragon Partition Manager recovery CD... Grub stamps all over it.

"MGR is compressed" also stands out. Any ideas?

I'll second getdataback - best recovery program I have used - tried several, and this one works when others dont.

You need to slave the drive, install the software on the working PC - the trial will go through the whole process right to the point of recovering it - then it wants $$. 250GB of data - will take a hour or so or three to scan.

808553 2009-09-10 06:46:00 Only have one PC unfortunately. Any chance it can make itself a bootable cd?

Edit: Says in the description it is. I guess I'll have to get it.

Thanks all.

808554 2009-09-10 09:53:00 I had the program from http://www.findandmount.com/ work for me. It brought up all the data as read only, I copied it to a backup drive, then reformatted the original drive and installed from the backup. Warning this was a data only drive, I have no experience of how it would work with programs, games etc. PPp (9511)
