NZ cops don't carry sidearms, but that doesn't mean they don't have easy access to them. If only the AOS had weapons then they'd be absolutely hamstrung. |

I said the police should have gone in, not the ambos ! ! ! But Digby. All the TV drama police are armed with all sorts of different weapons. The drama police do not care about anything other than getting the bad guy. I would not want to be around in some of those dramas. Just walking up the footpath and get an RPG in your tail end. Wow ! That hurt ! Of course in the drama you will wake up in hospital with a film star person hanging about. Wife, Nurse, Doctor, Police officer or childhood sweetheart etc. Reality tells me I would not survive and bits of me might be all over the neighbourhood. Try ringing 911 rather than 111 I suppose. It may take Rambo even longer to get here. Of course I could always give Superman a call I suppose. |

I was living in Wellington when the first couple were shot in the early 1960's. Called to a family fight in Lower Hutt. They parked outside the house and some lunatic shot them both dead, through the house front window and through the car windows. The people at Telecom sometimes don't appear too clever, but that is one thing they have right. The advantages of computer over electro-mechanical exchanges. And, so far as shooters are concerned, many carry them in the boot. If you listen to the cops now and then - not over exciting - you will hear them using their "Secret Squirrel" speak: Coms will ask them, "Have you got the necessary?" Takes all of a split second to work that one out!:groan: Thank goodness they do not carry sidearms. We have enough police shootings as it is. Trigger happy cops are the last thing we want on our streets. Besides, carrying a sidearm seems to bring out the arrogance. Witness the cops in NSW and UK. Not amusing. In fact, very worrying in the hands of twenty year olds.:horrified |

The Police are armed, they wear Flack Jackets and they spend hours training at our expense to handle these situations. They should have stormed the building, not fiddle around with the paper work. Next thing our Armed Forces will want to make sure where they are going is perfectly safe before they leave home. Then the Idiot Media pick on the poor Ambulance Officers. Next thing the Red Cross will be blamed for all the deaths at war! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! Then I suppose the trash that shot the guy will get off because the cops have stuffed up the prosecution! The countries stuffed!. :mad: |
