808944 2009-09-11 11:41:00 OK, this seems to fix most of it, although there are still a few things aligned wrong - my vicious correction of the erroneously centred text also caught the odd thing that should have been centred.

This should work both with and without JavaScript enabled, although if you disable it things will obviously render a fair bit faster.

If some of you could test this and give me some feedback about what, if anything, still needs fixing / changing, or if you find any bugs, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks :)

808945 2009-09-11 11:41:00 Sounds like a bunch of wingin poms (as we used to say)
It's not as if you actually have to read those ads ... Get over it!
Enjoy the fact that we all have a great site to visit and to get help from.

We do. I'm not going to repeat the whole argument here, but there have been many threads on it in the past which you're welcome to search.

We don't have a problem with ads, and many of us would even be happy to pay something to keep the forum ad-free. What we do have a problem with is the way Fairfax implements the ads here, and the utter lack of respect to the users who make this site useful for them.

This is why every time they change the ads, I post a new script to nuke them. I will continue to do so until they either fix the ads, or ban me for doing it.

808949 2009-09-11 12:09:00 Tempted to abuse my admin privileges and "fix" it ... but that would be wrong ... perhaps not as wrong as the Ads being on that side of the screen though :-/

Abuse your powers & put the ads on the right hand side please!!

Who knows, something may be done ...

Works perfectly Opera 10 Mepis Linux 64b

Cannot believe how hard it was to catch up on the news with that change. Great to have it back to normal again with your script.

Thanks :). Fingers crossed that something will happen, although I'm not hopeful - it never has in the past, not even with Jan & Karl's campaign to get things improved. They decided to ship Jan off to Norway instead where he's much easier to ignore :groan:.

808953 2009-09-11 12:22:00 Bah. Now I got a big blank space down the left of my screen.

Any good way to fix that in IE7?
