Overkill? The GPU is for gaming. That's what they are for - stuff your monitor.
GPU - Frame Rate PLUS all the pretty effects.
Resolution is secondary to all of that.

The 750 i5 is 2.66 stock running 4 cores, when only 2 or 1 core is running the cpu will turbo clock (like automatic clocking) up to 5 bins or 667mhz, and therefore surpass the dfastest intel dual core cpu
