677517 2008-06-11 21:28:00 uTorrent's very flexible in regards to bandwidth limiting and seeding according to conditions.

If you limit the speed in Utorrent, your download speed also slows, its like a built in fair shearing system. Using a program like Netlimiter means Utorrent knows nothing about the limiting and full download speeds are achieved.

Limiting is the reason why "public" torrent sites are slow.

I get 700kbps when downloading off rapidshare, sendspace and megaupload but during peak times i get around 100kbps off rapidshare

Rapidshare is certainly faster than BT

I get around 1100KB/s (maxing my 10MB pipe) nearly always on private trackers. Don't get confused between private and public trackers, rapidshare bites compared to private trackers.

I'm aware of how bittorrent works, especially uTorrent (forum.utorrent.com). I was merely showing the OP how to manage bandwidth and seeding.

In general I find bittorrent speeds are more than reasonable and definitely advocate seeding, although in NZ we don't have the luxury of seeding without regard but I'd recommend at least a .5 seeding ratio. Also as a best use tip, capping upload while download to a 1/3 of your up is recommended as saturating your upstream lowers download performance considerably, and not uploading at all does too.

As I said earlier, I prefer private servers with TorrentFlux (http://tf-b4rt.berlios.de/) set up, about as convenient as it gets really.

677519 2008-06-12 00:08:00 a general idea is to auto-shutdown your torrent once it's finished downloading. You still share bandwidth while you download it, therefore adding to the greater good.

options > auto shutdown > Quit when downloads complete.

677520 2008-06-12 05:03:00 Flag Torrent's and go Rapidshare. No uploads while you download! You can't beat that!

Well technically you're still uploading ack packets etc... :p

677521 2008-06-12 05:31:00 Haha, i use Azureus, i limit my upload to 0.1kb/s lol, leave the uploading to the people in the country's with fast uploads and net =-)

Maybe if its a good dl, i will upload half again =)

677522 2008-06-12 05:53:00 I would upload more than I do too IF I had enough bandwidth to do so.. Agent_24 (57)
677523 2008-06-12 07:37:00 On a related note, you can use ImageShack to download torrents (tor.imageshack.us) then download directly from a server, similar to TorrentFlux. Free accounts have limited but decent monthly diskspace and data caps, obviously sal (67)
677524 2008-06-12 10:10:00 Has anyone noticed that jwil1 has not posted in this thread since the first post.

No person has in fact, come up with a solution including me as far as I know.

All that does appear to be happening is a number of people having a debate about torrents etc and what software to use.

Looks to me like it's been answered pretty well, if not once (pressf1.co.nz) but a few times.

But Sal.
Some other people suggest using other software do they not?
As I mentioned jwil1 has not come back to this thread at the time of posting this.

So therefore how do you know the problem has been solved?
And if solved then how?
Was this done by changing software or changing configuration of the current software?

Of course you could have received a PM or Email that other readers of this forum know nothing about. If so then I suggest you share that knowledge with others whom might like to know.
