677126 2008-06-13 10:14:00 That's $199 US and yes Steve said that that would be the global price limit which is $264 NZ so probably priced from $265 for the 8GB to $299 for the 16GB iPhone although if they were priced at $199 NZ that would be pretty cool:banana :punk

Woa, $299 for the 16GB. I don't think so. It's priced at $299 in the US, a whole $US100 more than the 8GB.

Try NZ$299 and NZ$399.

Note that US prices don't include tax. Add GST and you're closer to the NZ$300 mark.

677129 2008-06-14 03:02:00 After all the press that has been around about Apple being out of stock of iPhones for the last month with the pending release of the new 3G iPhone anyone who did go and by one last week assuming they could actually get one would be as much of an idiot as the idiot that wrote the article.

Just been uptown in Napier this morning. There is a shop in the Mall in the main street and the guy was playing with an iphone on the counter. Asked if he had any in stock and he said "how many do you want?" I told him I had been assured by a person in the know that "they had been out of stock for the last month" he said "rubbish, he has had them in stock for the last 6 months" and that my "source of information must be an idiot"

I did like the look of the phone but as a person who only makes one or two calls and 6-7 texts a month, I thought I could manage without one.

The shop, for the benefit of all the Napier F1 folk is in the mall at the bottom end of Emerson St, just by the Lotto shop.

677130 2008-06-14 03:09:00 I'm sure WMG was referring to official authorised sellers of iPhones to be out of stock (i.e. no one in NZ till July 11), however importers would probably have decent stock levels. sal (67)

I am sure you are correct sal..

Doesn't necessarily mean that winmacguy is free of the idiot's disease though.

677132 2008-06-14 03:58:00 I read that they want it to retail for $199 everywhere !

That will piss Paul Brislen off !

And help drop the prices of other mobiles in New Zealand.

Thats $199 with a 24 month contract with AT&T , that contract costs about $30US per month.

Apple has changed the way they charge for the product now, they make the carrier front for some of the initial cost, so in return you will get a cheaper phone, but a higher monthly fee. I don't know if it will work like that in New Zealand,

I think there has been a report that you would be able to get one which is not on contract for around 400 - 500 Euros (because some Euro countries do not allow phones to be locked into contract)

Regardless, i don't think anyone should expect to get this thing for less then $500 - given the ipod touch costs around that much anyway.

677133 2008-06-14 04:00:00 Whats more you won't beable to parallel import these suckers, since you have to activate them when you buy them....

Trust Apple to corner the market.

That would be Parallel Imported who were actually advertising the "older" 1st gen iPhone as 3G capable.

The Apple.com online store had then listed as in stock but many US stores had trouble getting stock since about the start of May because Apple had assumed that people weren't going to be buying many so they reduced the production orders by about 50% - except that demand for the iPhone actually stayed the same for about 3 months prior to the Mac Developers Conference meaning that many stores had troubles getting stocks although people who could get them were buying 4 or 5 then unlocking them and selling them on ebay which Steve alluded to during the Keynote.

Apple COO Tim Cook actually mentioned during one of their conference calls after the 4th Quarter financial that they weren't going to stick to one single sales plan with the iPhone but were going to use "what ever worked" with the 3G iPhone.
