677085 2008-06-12 05:16:00 Nothing wrong with iTunes either.

While I don't find iTunes terribly "wrong", I do wish that it wasn't so slow to start up! If you have an iPod connected when you launch iTunes then the interface will freeze up for 15-20 seconds before you can do anything, and that's on a 64-bit dual-core machine. I really don't need to synch my iPod every single time I start iTunes

677086 2008-06-12 05:18:00 Just set iTunes to sync manually then... Thats what I do on my iMac. Mind you I only plug my iPod in when I need to update the tracks on it. vitalstatistix (9182)

I don't have any problems on my 64-bit quad core machine. But like VSX said, it's easy enough to have it do it manually.

677088 2008-06-12 05:40:00 They will know the price, but obviuolsy the NZ price hasn't yet been released . I expect $499 for a 24-36 month contract, and $899 for a prepay version. It now seems that Vodafone New Zealand will not offer a prepaid version as they are going to in other countries. Despite Apple and Vodafone's press release stating that there will be a prepay model, I noticed last night that the wording on Vodafone's website suggests it may be contract only and today an article was published by MacNN stating:

Despite a series of conflicting news releases, Vodafone has confirmed that there will not be a pay-as-you-go version of the iPhone 3G available in New Zealand. NZMac.com first spotted the confusion in statements from Vodafone and Apple New Zealand which announced both contract and prepaid versions of the iPhone in various press releases. Vodafone cleared things up this morning, saying only the contract versions will be available in New Zealand and Portugal beginning in July 11. - www.macnn.com

Unless they have some cheaper contract options focused on data rather than voice, there is no way I am signing up to a plan, so I guess there are a few things to think about:

What will the penalty fee be for breaking the contract?
How long will it be before parallel importers start importing phones from countries that do offer prepaid options?
Will Vodafone change their mind in the mean time?

Telecom will also be offering it, and they have a different supplier, so they may be able to give better pricing, and also one for people who don't want to be locked into a contract.

I though they were releasing their new network in October/November. Anyway if you really want an iphone 3G, you would be better buying it from overseas, especially if VF are going to lock you into a contract. I hate contracts from service providers, so would never buy one under their terms.

I have no issues with contract phones, depending on the terms (the ones that VF wont tells us yet).
